In a pinch they're easy to make from 7.62/.308 win. brass.

Entirely true. Not going to look up the shoulder length, but perhaps necking up a 243 would do as well, without having a thicker neck. Ran into something similar with my 280 Rem, as it is based off of the 30-06 case.
