I don't think so.
It's the same as people calling cans "tin cans" They are steel just in a thin variety. No tin to be had.

I investigated some "vintage tin ceiling" on craigslist last year. It wasn't tin, at least the stuff I looked at wasn't.

Tin Foil
Tin Can
Tin Ceiling

Maybe once it was but not so much now.

I remember when I started out a book said to use old toothpaste tubes for a tin source. The plastic just didn't want to flux into the mix. :groner:

<----- Remembers when toothpaste tubes were metal so at one time it probably was tin.

I was thinking it was lead for how easy it was to melt and roll up and same as airplane glue tubes .

Ducting sheetmetal is galvanized (zinc) steel.

Yep. My Father and I used them to sweeten cable sheath for .38 wadcutters. Lots of medical ointment tubes were also tin.

Tons and tons of them sitting in landfills...

I used to be a "tinner" in my younger days....but the only tin in the sheet metal trade now is in the solder used to waterproof roof flashing joints--and most of those get caulked instead of soldered.
