I know that's a very subjective question but I saw one today at a local gun shop and I thought the price was a little high. I know they made them for many years. This one looked pretty old, the bluing had some wear marks and a few scratches, but the wood looked original and looked fantastic. No idea what the bore looked like. Also it had a 60's vintage scope on it which I thought was exceedingly charming.

These seem to be overlooked by collectors more in favor of the winchesters, but I understand hey are starting to become more desirable.

The tag they had on it was in the low $400 range, but the shop was a large commercialized place that probably sells 90% evil black rifles and plastic pistols and I think they tend to be on the high side price-wise. On the other hand maybe with old more collectable stuff they don't really know exactly what they have so to speak. Just curious what you think, I always liked these.

Pretty much looked like this one

It has been a few years since I have seen any models under 400 bucks, that were in any kind of decent shape.

Someone talk me out of this, I just bought a 1911 Range Officer last week and my wife is going to strangle me if I go back in there...

The 303 Savage tends to be a little lower priced than most other chamberings. Powerwise, it is on a par with the 30-30, though many old-timers swore by the heavy bullet of the Savage round. Brass and Ammo are special order items, and pretty expensive, though Graf and Sons did advertise it last spring. If all you want is a neat 99, then buy it. The price is pretty reasonable, though if it has a scope, then it is not factory original. But a clean, original is worth more like 550-800, depending on condition.

lever action savages ARE being much sought after and usually go for a price in the mid to high 300's....
I dont know about the 303 caliber, but finding a 250/3000 at a decent price is almost impossible.

If it was drilled and tapped for a scope and didnt come from the factory like that, it is de-valued as a collector gun by 50%of book value. It becomes "Shooter" value only.
If you wanted a gun in that caliber and whatever scope it has as to the value included , around 400 is Not a bad price all things considered

Kittery Trading post's used gun index shows they have 5 in stock. Prices range from $475.00 to $675.00. Yours is probably a pretty good buy.
