Was looking at the ingredients in paste shoe polish. Carnuba and bees wax was listed. Any ever tried this as a lubricant? Going to get a can of black polish and lubricate a few for Friday range visit.

OK, it's got the wax, but what's the lube? It needs something to lubricate the bore.

Last time I bought Kiwi it was expensive on a per oz. basis. You can probably by a good, less messy lube cheaper.

True. But found a lot of used cans of polish left over from mu military days. Might as well see if it works. At the very least mix it with bees wax and parafin to give the lube some color.

Try http://www.lsstuff.com/lube/.

Glenn's Carnuba Red and BAC are both great lubes at very reasonable prices !

i know a guy that mixes it in his 50-50 lube to make the lube easier to see.
it does add some property's like jpw.
i'd probably make a batch of lube up with it, if i had a bunch of cans of the stuff or got them cheap.

Hey, Jabo;

Could be that if you melt it carefully, such as in a double boiler, and let it sit in liquid form for a while, the dye will separate out. Just a thought.

I have heard of one use for black shoe polish...something to watch out for at gun shows...seller will patch the stuff into a rough pitted bore..looking thru breech..bore looks shiny and smooth!

Makes a fine looking lubricant. Will take it to the range tomorrow to see how well it works.

Range report ...no leading with the 38 or 44. Smelled nice too.

How fast were you pushing them? Especially the 44?

I have used the neutral to lube cases before sizing, works nearly as good as Imperial.

Kiwi is formulated for leather and has tannic acid in it. If not removed entirely, it will eventually promote rust.

Was driving both at 1200fps. Worked fine. Now that I have experimented I can go back to my regular stuff.

Probably just the thing for "heeled" bullets!

Won't happen...as lots of veterans can verify, when you melt Kiwi you get melted Kiwi. It will re-solidify with color intact as soon as it cools.
