They are not cheap. Was the rifle made by Shiloh? That is where my my Sharps purchase will be through. Won't be cheap but they do a great job building them and in competition.

Take care

Uberti build a number of the sharps models all of which are out of my price range starting at over $1000 and rarely found in the $800 range up used. Really my dream gun the one they call the Quigley Down Under after the part Tom Selleck played in the movie using one of them. I now own a 45-70 but a Rossi Rio Grande Lever gun that is also excellent but is $437 NIB at Bud's.

I just had to throw my .02 in here. The Quigley is a BEAUTIFUL rifle. I had a custom built one. And it was very accurate BUT that but plate will beat you to death lol.

I would select something with a Shotgun Style stock or at least something you can put a recoil pad on.

Yes but my plan if I bought it was to load with either Black powder of Trailboss. I use the heavier stuff for my Rossi which has a good shock absorbing butt plate. ;)

+ 1 Trailboss

Sure makes a difference. It gives a push instead of a kick compared to any other smokeless powders that I have tried for 45-70.

I used Black and Only Black for BPCR out of my Sharps in 45-70 with the Postel 535Gr.

There are a few places that sells italian Pedersoli up here but that depend on your budget. The nice ones can get pricey. Myself, I got a H&R BC for my 1st foray into BPCR country and I love it. Nice inexpansive rifle. Shoot straight and looks like an old piece. Just what I wanted.

I picked up a new Pedersoli 1874 Sharps in .45-120 this past June at End of Trail. I haven't shot it yet, but I think I'll have to work up a load for it, since it doesn't appear to have the strength my Browning B-78 does in .45-120. My loads for the Browning are STIFF! Most people shoot one round and hand it back, but I really enjoy shooting it.

I'm Canadian as well and would recommend the Montana made Shiloh or C. Sharps, I have or have used both, and would spend some extra on a US built one and have Clay import it for you.
