View Full Version : Standing on the ledge and thinking about jumping

I was out in town yesterday and stopped by the local gunshop to see what's new.
They had a barely used Gen3 Glock 30 with a set of Trijicon night sights, 4 magazines, case with all the doodads in it.
They wanted $500 for it, I offered $400 and they said yes! As I was reaching for my wallet my brain turned on, and said
"Do you really need ANOTHER 45 auto?"
Shut up brain! I got this!
"No... really, think about this, you already have a dozen 45's, why are you buying another one"
Dude seriously, shut up or I'll drink you to death when I get home.
"You're going to do that anyhow, by the way, what did your liver do to you?"
HA! I knew you guys were talking about me. I'm buying this Glock, go away, leave me alone.
"It's a GLOCK, you don't like Glock, why are you buying it?"
Well...you have a point there, but it's so new, and it's such a good price, and it's a compact 45, I don't really have a compact 45 yet.
"Ok I'll make you a deal, go home and think about this overnight, if you still want it by the morning I'll stay out of it and you can buy it, deal?"
DEAL!

So here I am, the next morning, I still want the dern thing, but maybe not as much. It is afterall a Glock... and I am saving for and waiting for a Springfield XDS to come along, and one will eventually. Talk me down off this ledge, or push me off.

You are not going to beat that deal Trey but you knew that. Get it, shoot it, and decide whether to trade it on the XDS after you shoot it. You can sell the extra's off if you do decide to gunshow it.

Worst that can happen is you shoot the heck out of it for a year and resell at a $100.00 loss. You rented the gun for $8.33 per month.

If you like the Glock, go for it. You can get the XDM as well (my preference).

My take is...if you don't like Glock...don't get it. you won't like it. I don't care for them either, they just don't feel right in my hands. I'm not Glock bashing, just not for me.

I would bother writing a response, but by now the store's open and you're filling out paperwork.

Well, did you get it?

hard to pass judgement on a gun i haven't ever shot..
the only way you'll know whether you like it or not and what it is all about is to shoot the thing.
call it research.

Too many .45's?????

That may be the most stupid question that a brain has ever asked. Slap that silly gray worry-wart back into submission!

You're gonna need a little .45 until the mystical XDS arrives. Bird in the hand, you know.

You're asking the wrong question. You should be asking yourself "how bad would I woould feel if I didn't get it"?

I tend to agree with the majority here; buy it! A man can never have too many 45 ACPs, you need one of each manufacturer. I think a Glock would be a good "tackle box/glove box" gun...

I think there is an XD Subcompact .45 in swappin' and sellin' at this very moment.

Buy it and when you decide you don't like it. I'll take it off your hands for a 'fair' price. :bigsmyl2::bigsmyl2:

Buying a $650 setup for $400 is a no brainer.

that said I never shot a Glock 30, I love my 21SF and my 22.

Go ahead and buy it. I've had several Glocks and happily dumped (sold) them to willing knowledgeable buyers. Never lost any dollars on them but never had one I liked. Even the 21 I had was a *** and it was the best of the bunch.

I'm a 1911 guy and I've owned several. I was looking at the 30 as a compact backup for my current full size. While on the hunt I came across an RIA compact used that looked like it just came out of the box, for $300. I'd have taken that 30 at $400 in a heart beat but the RIA ended my search.

Only thing worng with the deal is it's a Glock. I keep buying the next gen, hoping I will ike taht one better, but never get really warm to them. Just remember, it's never about need, always want. That's how I ended up with another AR upper last month.

Have you got it yet ??? Glocks are like Ugly Kids, they kinda grow on ya and usually turn out good members of the family. Especially in a 45.

Think of it like saving a puppy from the pound. You know there are a lot of people who mistreat Glocks. .

Good lord, seriously? Buy the thing, shoot it, if you don't like it, turn around and make a c-note on it at the next gunshow. I paid $500 for mine, almost brand new, and I only got two magazines! If you have the disposable cash, get it, you can always get your money back out of it.

I love my 30. I was never a Glock guy either.

Just a heads up, I decided against the Glock, I have owned Glocks in the past and gotten rid of them, I just can't get used to that grip. I think I showed considerable self restraint regardless of the prodding of you enablers here. I'll save my money towards that XDS.

Also, you came here expecting people to talk you *out of* buying a gun?

What a show of restraint. It is expecially noteworthy in the face of all us enablers!

I'm thinking about a RUGER SR-22 for "when I don't think I need a gun" type occasions. Three local shops: new at $325; new at $300; used at $250 (and his new price when he had one last week was $275.) I have lots of larger and more efficient caliber handguns...starts with a 4...BUT the little guy keeps calling my name.

I guess GLOCKS are OK, but I hear they are h*** on brass.

Night sights, gen 3 and 4 mags for $400 and you passed?

That thing would have come home with me in a heartbeat and I already own one. I can't even touch a new one with my LEO discount for near that price.

The good news is that the company here can help you to "justify" most any purchase, as long as it's one they would have made if they had the money and opportunity.

I have managed not to keep hold of any Glocks myself. Don't get me wrong, they work just fine and all that, but I'm just not a fan of the ergonomics on the Austrian lego pistol.

You've achieved something when you run into "a friend" at WAL MART who gives you multiple hugs and talks to you while her boy friend is glaring at both of you. You also give thanks that SWMBO was not with you that evening.
