This is a VERY important topic...

Playing with the S&W 500 I just picked up on here. I have been loading up these spire points.

http://www.doaks.net/projects/guns/sw500/sw500-spirepoint.jpg

My thoughts are that for pumpkin hunting these would cause more destruction than a large meplat boolit. I think that a large meplat might give more of a hole punching effect while a spire point will act like a wedge, and at bullet speeds cause a pressure wave of destruction within the media (pumkin rind), blowing out a larger hole.

Am I wrong? I don't know if a hollow point would have time to expand in the rind.

I don't want the pumpkins to suffer.

This would be my most "humane" .50-caliber approach:

That's actually x101airborne's baby, .50 Beowulf with a 450-grain custom NOE mould. You can take a bath in the hollow point cavity. If I ever expect an attack by a ravenous horde of Zombie pumpkins I have him on speed-dial.

What did those pumpkins do to deserve it?

Not cruel, that's the pinnacle of their life! Those particular gourds are fit only for blasting or "Chunkin'". The orangie ones make great pies though....I only shoot them when they're rotten and not fit to eat.

Dang, now I'm hungry for some good punkin' pie, and I don't mean one made with the canned stuff.

I'm certain they had a fair trial. Were probably found guilty of just laying around.

I am after a Herter's 401 Power Mag. ............. George Herter if he were still with us, would point out that it can hit one ANYWHERE ......... and kill it!!

It is the crime of SLOTH. And unlike our judicial system, we prefer our justice swift. Just like they did Saddam..... Guilty, and you hang at dawn!
Those gords just sit there.... Staring. You can see the evil in them as they taunt you. Like the song of a siren luring sailors to the reef. I dont trust em at all.

Dear GAWD! That would make quite a boom! The average punkin around here would hold enough Tannerite to level an apartment complex!

Well, it is nothing I enjoyed. In fact, I was a little teary-eyed afterward and walked around feeling like I was chewing a wad of aluminum foil just after swallowing a two pound flint rock and taking 4 shots of milk of magnesia.
The donkey was old and suffering from arthritus. We tried to sell him several years ago, no luck. We tried to give him away, no luck. Anyway, it was time to send him on to the green pasture, and even though he wasn't my donkey, I was tasked with it.
He musta known the jig was up, cause he wouldn't let me within 100 yards of him. One shot behind the shoulder with the 50 beowulf. Full penetration, never even slowed down. Had about a 3/4 inch entrance hole and an exit hole the size of my fist. Hated to do it, but the boolit worked perfectly.

Well if we didnt like big things, no one would shoot 50 cals! LOL

Besides, you SAID you wanted some pumpkin pie. I bet you could wear it from 100 yards!

Yeah, I know, go big of go home! I kinda like the concept of pull trigger, open mouth, eat pie, but a slicker suit and safety glasses would definetely be in order.

I want to see what those little cone-points do to a pumpkin.

Yup.:Fire:
I filled a half pumpkin with water and shot it with a 223. Spectacular - mashed pumpkin. I'd imagine a whole one filled with water would be great fun!

Shooting a Pumpkin with a .50 must be like sitting front row at a Gallagher concert. Can you say SLEDGE-O-MATIC?

Around here we don't shoot AT them, we SHOOT them.

The big air cannons can send them just short of a mile. They really splat when they hit the ground!

No need to hollow them out, there's a lot of nothing inside them to start with. Make a hole just big enough to stick a hose in and fill 'er up. No trial, no reports to file.

I watched it a few times years past but the TV show seems to be full of fluff. Kind of like when Junkyard Wars was a good show and they couldn't leave good enough alone... and battle bots too. I certainly wouldn't mind being there in person though. Sounds like a lot of fun.

we've heard tell that Pelosi and the Obommunists are considering "cruel and inhumane" treatment of all living things, pumpkin or not, will be considered a felony under the new "Bambi-Killer Law" going to the House sub-committee on new world social justice this week......

So hit 'em humanely or don't hit 'em at all!! Ha-ha!

I have done this - it is great fun. My suggestion is not to FILL it with Tannerite, since it will just vaporize the pumpkin. Put one bottle in there and when you hit it you will create a shower of goo in about a 60 yard radius
