is $261 shipped for a used star sizer a fair price?

I just won a star sizer on ebay for $250 plus $11 shipping. It came with a top punch and a .451 die. is that a fair price for a used star??

dies are airc @35.00 and punches are @15.00 or so.
i have two of them that probably have well over 200,000 boolits through them each and i have only replaced some of the springs on them.

Well, That one appears to be very clean and in very good shape and not overly old. I can't say you got a screaming steal but it is a solid good deal in my opinion. Dennis

I put the going ebay price at $200 for the bare unit.
$35 - $40 for the die/punch combo.
So you did about average.

herbie - that Star looks almost unused. You did great. Now, open the .451 die to .452 and you'll be good to go !!! Great job. enjoy Mike

It was a good deal for both seller & buyer - but, in my book, the .451 size die is useless. Boolits sized through that die may work in your gun, especially if you are using a fairly soft alloy and good loob. That combo will allow the boolit to obturate and seal nicely so you won't get any leading. Harder alloy will create problems when sized to .451, IMHO.

Alot of F/A revolvers won't accept anything bigger, although mine can use .452"(.454 Casull).

well ive been watching ebay for stars for about a month:coffeecom and i missed out on a couple that sold for right around $200 which didnt make me very happy and then the next few sold from between $250 and $370(accessories included).

the tough thing about getting screamn deals is that you have to be the first person to make the offer as far as when a seller offers one on a forum or in real life. Ebay is tough cause everyone is watching and waiting for those. Seems like most awesome deals happen face to face in the real world when they randomly pop up at a gun show, flea market, LGS(Brotherdarrell, geez!), etc..

Yup. better deals *can* be had in person. That's where knowing what you're buying pays off.

As for the price you paid; I think fair is an accurate term for it. It wasn't a screaming deal, but you didn't get fleeced either.
