On Friday I picked up a brand new Winchester Model 94 Sporter in 38-55

This rifle is a thing of Beauty! The Japan Winchester folks really turn out a nicely finished product.

Yesterday I took it to the range to fire for function with it's supplied barrel sights. Performance was outstanding at 25 yards. But I plan on using it for side matches at Cowboy Action Shoots. So the sights needed improvement.

In my junk drawer I had some unknown brand tang sight that wiggled and wobbled and the base wouldn't fit the Winchester.

So out to the shop and my milling machine carved a new base from a block of steel. The sides of the sight was trues and stainless steel washers were fitted ti tighten it up.

I designed the base to keep the tang safety accessible.

The rear barrel sight was replaced with a "flip down" type.

Back to the junk drawer for an old Lyman #17 front sight

And at 50 yards...The proof is in the pudding....

Using a "Period Correct" benchrest and no rear bag.....

Nice work on converting that sight. I recently bought one of the new Winchester 94's but in .30-30 rather than .38-55.

Chris,

You're gonna love that Winchester! I still have to modify the hammer spring to remove the rebound hammer action.

Let us know how your rifle shoots.

Roy,

Nice gun and good shooting! I approve of the site upgrades.
