Is there any hope of the 311-247 FN Whisper stabilizing in a 1:10 twist .308 at 1100fps? Anybody done it?

I don't believe you will get it to stabilize at 1100, I shoot it in my 30-06 1:10 at 1950 and it shoots very tight groups.

Not trying to talk you out of it, I just haven't done it, might be fine, but I believe physics might be against you.

They do shoot well in my 1:8 300BO at that speed.

That's kind-of how I am feeling about it. I haven't bought the mold yet. I'm thinking about this one instead:

I have shot it in my 30-06 with a 1:10 down to 950fps.... at 25 yards it shoots into one very small hole at 50 it's about 1/2-5/8" at 100 its about 1" at 200 it will stay on a 10" round plate no problem. It's quiet and doesn't have any recoil.... smacks the steel plates pretty hard also even at under 1000 fps

You mean the 247gr, correct?

What load are you shooting?

Can I borrow a few boolits from one of you to try?

Yep, they work fine at that speed in a 1:10 barrel. My 30-06 shoots incredibly well with that boolit over 11.0gr. Trailboss for 1025 fps. Trajectory just like a 22LR but hits things really hard.

This is good to hear, I'll load some up for my 14 year old daughter to shoot.

Grandpa always told me not to borrow anything out I never expected to see again.

I have gone down to 9.0gr of trailboss with wolf primers. Open up the flash holes a little bit to keep the primers from backing out....make sure you load up 50-100 for a range trip because you wont want to stop shooting them. Recoil is nothing, muzzle blast is next to nothing, and they are just fun. If my wife goes to the range with me when I am going to be shooting these loads I dont get to shoot any.

Very interesting!

I have a Savage Model 110 w a 22" 1:10 Douglas barrel in 308 Win. Will have to try that bullet in that rifle and see what happens. Always good to have another combination of things that works.

We need to get you off on the right foot here. Your post is like telling us about your new Ford Camaro.

There is NO 311247 "Whisper" Boolit or mould. It was developed for the 300 BLK.

Funny you say that because it doesn't feed well in both of my 300blk. Good thing I have other 30 cal's to try it in.

I don't know where you are coming from.

See this thread for the boolit I'm talking about.

I find they feed fine from our 2 300 BO uppers if seated deep, past the crimping groove, just to the edge of the forward driving band.

When seated to the crimping groove they don't feed very well in either.

Anyone have a good calculated BC for this boolit?

There was an interesting article in last months American Rifleman on the subject of the .300 Whisper versus the .300 BLK.

They are virtually IDENTICAL!

The .300BLK was created mainly to get SAAMI certification since the .300 Whisper is proprietary to JDJ and didn't want to mess with it.

Now that it is standardized many outfits are coming out with guns for it. Even Kel-Tec has brought an version of their SU16 in .300BLK, and the only thing different about that gun from the .223 version is the diameter of the hole in the barrel.

All of the .300 Whisper guns were custom, now there are generic alternatives. AR versions are the most plentiful.

Grumpa even make the brass and sells it here.

The article included drawings of the two cartridges, and other than a couple of Thou here or there, they are identical.

Just enough difference to keep the lawyers at bay.

the other story is that the owners at AAC were so PO'ed at JD that they developed the cartridge to irritate him. SAAMI will not certify copyrighted cartridge designs.

I am still at a loss as to how the companies that headstamp their rounds 300 Whisper reconcile that.

I don't see where JD has a leg to stand on anyway. Isn't the .300 Whisper just a .300 Fireball with a fast-twist barrel?
