Cast some slugs for the .45 yesterday and now according to my lee tester they are only @ 8 bhn. Previously I water dropped them and they would be around 14-15 right after quenching and end up at around 19-20 after a week. I was looking to get a softer boolit but don't know if they are too soft or will harden enough to use, or could they be loaded as is. I plan to use LLA on them and the load I use gets around 900fps.
What would you all do?
Thanks!

Make a few dummy rounds. First indication that they are actually too soft would be if they don't survive the loading process without getting deformed while seating. Cycle a few dummies and see if they chamber. If they get snagged on the way in, they are too soft. After that a few live rounds sent downrange will be the real test.

If you haven't lubed them yet, you can heat treat them in an oven. Kind of a lot of trouble unless you cast a whole bunch up. If you have a .45 revolver, you could always use them in it too.

I'd follow 376Steyr's advice first, though. If they feed alright, I think they'll do fine in the shooting process.

HA!

I use 8 BHN for .357 and .44 Mag, it will be fine for .45 ACP. Hardness is massively
over rated. Load and shoot. If the fit and lube are good, they will be fine.

That's what I was hoping someone would say. I really didn't want to remelt 600 boolits. I did try the heat treatment on a few but it didn't seem to change any thing.
Thanks for the replies.

they should be just fine for your intended use. Also try it in everything cause you will never know til you do
