Ok, I am exploring the idea of making a trim jig for the 30 & 357 Herret. It would be similar to my 300 blk out jig seen here:

Of course the rimmed base would require thet it eject back to the left after trimming instead of to the right.

If there was enough demand I could do a springloaded eject, if the demand was low then a manual extraction after cutting could be done. If there was enough demand for me to justify it I could buy a reamer to fully support the brass to make finished hand trimming the absolute minimum.

So my two questions are;

1 do you normally trim a 30-30 case then re shoulder it or do you move the shoulder first.

2. If a jig was to run in the $40 manual eject or $55 auto eject range how many are SERIOUSLY interested and how many are sort of interested?

I normally move the shoulder back then trim. At those prices I would be in for one of each (30 Herrett and 357 Herrett)

Good idea. Once I get a pile of brass, I'm good for a long time. Personnaly I'd not be interested, but love to see how ingenious folks are. go for it.

I would be interested in 1 of each also. Worst part of making the new brass to me is the ability to cut off the excess efficiently.

The reamers I would need for this would run about $120, I have no other uses for these as they are an odd size....
It is possible I could CNC the bore, I have not tried it on a hole as deep as this.

One jig could be made adj to cover both calibers, simply slide the jig back and tighten the bolts in the slots.

Does anyone have a 357 that has the shoulder moved back but not trimmed yet? Also one in 30 Herrett, same deal?

If I had one of each I could *try* to cnc a jig and bore w/o reamers and see if it is accurate enough.

Conversely I could try to CNC a jig to hold a 30-30 case that would be trimmed then you could set the shoulder back and final trim.

I do have plenty of 30-30 on hand.

Sorry, I cannot help with that at the moment as I am out-of-state nursing my daughter following her stroke in August. If you cannot get anybody to provide one in the next several weeks I will be home about the first of the month and I can do that then (I have to go home briefly to check on the house and probably shovel the snow, plus pay the bills). Let me know how you make out and if you still need these at the end of the month.

I'm sorry and my prayers go out to you and her. My wifes sister had one when she was 21. Now she's 50. Sorry for the off topic post.

take special care,

I can create some full length 357 H cases for you pretty easy. I don't have a 30 H at the present so I can't help there.

PM me with how many you need and your address.

Are you still working on this?

I believe rcbs made a trim die for these calibers. Screw in loading press, set to hieght , run case in and cut excess off with jewelers saw or fine blade in a hacksaw. I set mine at around +.010 and used a wilson trimmer for the last little bit..

I made a few and sent a couple out. Haven't heard back on how they worked. . I will look at my notes in the shop tonight for names and hit them up.

Did you get a 30-30 with the neck pushed back for 30Herret? If not I can send one. I wouldn't need a jig, I just size 30-30 in an RCBS trim die then rough trim on a band saw, then final trim to length in a case trimmer. You have a great idea for producing large numbers of cases though.

Carbine, I believe I sent you one. We're you the guy who sent the test cases?

No i got a 308 to 45 shotshell jig from you. I just got my 357 herrett barrel a month ago. I doubt I will ever need more brass than what I have for it but i would rather be prepared.

So is this a product you are going to produce

PS I always size first (push shoulderback) then trim
Interested in both 30 and 357 herrett sizes

Probably not. The rim makes it inefficient. A better way would be a cts style trimmer
