So I got that .32 Single Six....
And I've been looking at molds....

So these are 2 ideas I have for having a custom mold made:

As you might have guessed, I am wanting accuracy and power - and these are what I've come up with. I am not a fan of the "hang as much lead out of the case as possible" mantra.:cbpour:

I'd bet that the single six would handle either of those just fine, but I'll be honest, I seem to get better accuracy across the board in the .32's when I have a base band of at least .080. I think it has to do with base deformation in the forcing cone, but it could be any number of other factors.

What alloy do you like? What powder do you like? That is an interesting observation with the base band thing....

Well, I run anything from 30-1 to straight WW depending on what's in the pot, and honestly, with all else being the same, in my guns, the 30-1 will edge out the straight WW for accuracy, but the margin is so small as to be unimportant for most of my shooting. Size, of course, makes the biggest difference. I have been fortunate, and have only had one .32 thus far with undersized throats.

For powder, I use a lot of tite-group in the .32's, but I found the thicker base-band helped with everything I tried, some more than others. As a general rule, the faster the powder, the more difference I noticed. Tite-group and Bullseye were some of the worst offenders. Since I use so much fast powder, it caused me to take note of the difference. The powder that had the least difference observed with the thinner base bands was blue-dot. There was still a slight difference, but hardly noteworthy. I didn't continue my experiments with blue-dot, but I plan to at some point when I have more time.

My findings of course are subject to be disagreed with. I'm not saying anyone else will have similar experiences, but it is what I've observed.

I'm using the plain base version of Ranch Dog's 115 grain .32-20 boolit with great success in my .32 Magnum. It has a thick base band.

Exactly the same boolit as FergusonTO35 has, or Ideal #3118 in all my 32 H&Rs. The nose fills the throats on a single six if you seat them out to just less than cylinder length. Over 5.5gr. AA#5 I get much better than factory ballistics and still have easy extraction.

I thought the magnum powders - Lil' Gun, H110, etc would give better performance but have found this is not the case. The little 32 needs faster powders for top speed. I have settled on #5 because it works and I have a bunch of it, but several powders in that burn range would work.

No need for gas checks or hard lead with the 32, and with that 6cav. Ranch Dog mould I can sure turn out a lot of boolits in a hurry!

If you do go for a custom Mountain mold, look at getting as much lead out of the case as you can - make a nose to fill the cylinder so you have as much room for powder in the case as possible.

I will throw this in as well.

The most accurate bullet I have tried form virtually every single one of my .32's has been an original ideal 31133. The 31133 is the HP version of the 3118 (now the 311008). I don't know what about that bullet makes it so accurate, but it's like magic in my guns.

It's not my most used mold, as it is by nature a single cavity. Thankfully, I haven't found a bullet yet, that when sized properly, hasn't shot at least pretty well in my guns. And I've tried a lot. I think my mold collection for the .32's (of .313 size) runs over 20 different designs at present.

I have shot the 3118, the 313640 both NOE, the Lee 90 tl and the RCBS 98 swc. Hands down the RCBS is the accuracy winner. It has enough of a meplate that small game should be fearful. I would not turn down a custom mold but would not be without the 98 RCBS.

I'm a fan of the 3118 and 31133 also. Both have done well in the two .32 Mags I have tried them in./beagle

Checkout NOE's 314008. I've got it. Love it. .314 is a great diameter for my .32 SSM, a couple of 30/30's, 30/40......
