Had to go to the public range today to test some loads in my 1941 Sako M39 Mosin. I started with IMR4895 at 30grs and went to 39 grs in 1 gr steps. They tightened up at 33grs then started to open again at 35grs. I had to place the target at 80 yds as any farther and I could not make it out. Here are two groups, 32 an 33grs.

This is 32 grs.

This one is 33 grs.

The load was as follows

Win 7.62x54r Brass
Win LR primer
33 grs of IMR4895
Accurate 205b 205 gr boolit
NRA 50/50 lube
Whole boolit tumble lubed after sized and lubed at 0.314"

Anyone have any chrono data on a 200 gr boolit? Trying to guess the speed here.

Looks like 33 is a winner.

Actually both of those groups don't look bad at all.

tomme boy,
Just like you I shoot a Model 39 but mine is a 1944 VKT. I have been trying a number of different powders and am now using C.E. Harris' "The Load" 16 gr. of 2400. This load in my rifle seems to shoot better than I can. I think that I need to spend more time shooting and less time developing a new load because the more I shoot the better it gets. Your loads of 4895 look very promising, keep up the good work.

I was surprised it is actually shooting this good. This thing has the been there done that look to the firearm. I'm going to play with it some more. I was surprised at the amount of recoil this has with the 200gr boolit. I guess I am used to shooting my 308win that has a muzzle break.
