Gents - Going to give a newly aquired second hand Lyman 450 a going over before it's put into service - I did a search but couldn't find the answer I'm looking for............Does anyone know of the Orange paint color that is used to touch up the factory Lyman color? Secondly is a heater needed for the facory Lyman orange lube that comes with the sizer? Thanks Bill in MA

When refinishing the 45 and 4500, I used Rust-Oleum Glossy Real Orange. On cast surfaces, the shine is between gloss and matte.

I haven't any experience with that lube.

All my 450's are battleship grey. My 45 is orange.
I've seen that lube at Sportsman's Warehouse.

Going from memory while at work, but I believe the Lyman lube is their Orange Magic - going to use it for moderate 357, 44 spl loads and was wondering if warming is needed to make it work or work better thru the sizer. The paint issue is more touch up of the factory color, but if I have to I'll repaint the entire unit - Thanks Bill in MA

The use of heat for the Orange Magic, depends on room temp. When I used it, there was no heat in the winter in the basement. I used heat in the winter, but open doors and window made Summer use OK without heat.

462 is right and take a hair drier as soon as you spray it and will make a matt finish

The 450 model I'm referring to is the newer version (80's or so) with the handle upgrade, but before Lyman changed to the 4500 model. Just trying to get a color match - Thanks to all - Bill in MA

This just a thought and something I was thinking about doing.I believe at Home Depo they have a color matching computer that takes a photo or scan of a object and comes up with a paint formula that the paint departmnet people can mix to match.Might be worth a try as long as you have the luber apart.Let us know if you do that and how well it matched

I just saw your post
I just used rustoleum Fire Orange Satin over a red oxide type primer and it is fairly close
The dark primer under the orange darkens the final color
# is 263149

If you go the Home Depot or any other paint matchers, make sure the paint you get is NOT some water based environmentally safe for Democrats to eat paint. It will work less better than the welfare crowd. It won't, and you will still get to pay for it!

Finding an exact match is going to be a challenge. I spent four days and went to every shop around trying to match it. 20-30 years of UV light, grease, repeated heating and cooling as well as being tossed under a bench tend to change the hue of the paint.

My advice strip it and repaint it. You will be happier and if you own it ten years the amount of time to do it is minuscule. You will know the machine in and out too.

Post a picture of it..
