I picked up another rifle yesterday. I got a pristine condition Remington 514 single shot.

I think I finally found the proverbial "magic rifle". This thing shoots everything I put in it and as good as I do with a scope!

FIVE SHOT GROUPS, 50 FEET.

1- CCI BLAZERS
2- CCI SHORTS, HP
3- CCI STINGERS
4- FEDERAL AUTO MATCH
5- FEDERAL 55 BOX, LOAD NUMBER 745
6- CCI QUIETS
7- WINCHESTER SUPER X 40 GR. LEAD HOLLOW POINT
BOTTOM CENTER(not numbered)- REMINGTON GOLDEN BULLETS, 40 GR. HP

NOTE: I adjusted the sights between groups, thus the different locations of groups.

I have a bag of mixed ammo that I've collected over the years from opened boxes. There's probably a half dozen different kinds in there. Just for kicks and giggles, I took the rifle off the rest, stood up and started shooting at a knot in the target board with whatever came out of the bag. The knot is 2" wide and 3" high. The hole in the very bottom left corner of the photo is an old hole.

Nice shooting 22. I bought a 514 in the early 90s. Mine, too, is very accurate. Amazing that this was Rem's "budget" rifle at the time.

My grampa gave me one before he died. The extractor broke a while back but I was able to get it fixed by an OLD time gunsmith that used to work for Remington. That little rifle brings a smile to my face every time I see it. I wish I could still see iron sights as good as when grandpa first gave it to me. I used to be a real tack driver with it, literally! I used to drive nails into a pine board with it at about 20 paces, every time.

Man, I can relate to that!

The Rem. 514 was my first gun at age 9. They were/are very accurate.

They are nice rifles and can be very accurate, as you well know. I picked up one a while back and am in the process of "re-doing it".

Hope to enjoy it as much as you have with yours!

I bought some Aguila 29 gr. hollow point shorts and tried 'em in the 514. For iron sights, I was pleased with how they shot. I wasn't very impressed with how they did in the Cricket, Marlin XTR and the Savage 15-A, all scoped rifles.

And about that same time frame I can remember walking down to the store in the village at the age of 12 and buying as many boxes of shorts as I had money for.

I have two of those Rem 514s. One I inherited from my Dad and the other from my Father-in-law. They are both great shooting rifles. I just wish they had a better trigger.

The 514 was my first also, at age 12 (1961). It finally got bequeathed to my daughter years ago. I missed it so much I must have said something aloud as my brother in law presented me with another one just last year. Doesn't have "shine" of my rifle from years ago but it will put all shots where I aim 'em. Good enough!:bigsmyl2:

I've killed many a feed barn rat with one of those. It was my first rifle as well. Mine will dang near stack CCI Mini Mags one on top another at 40 yards.

Is one that is in good shape and with a scope mount on it worth a $100? Know where one is for that.

Scope mount, huh? Had to be D&Ted by a GS, they didn't come like that.

The only bad 22's are the ones we don't take out for a walk often enough ....guilty!

one of my first rifles I bought 30 years or more. it will shoot cci cb caps better then most 22 rifles. A lot of my fancy 22 will not shoot the cp caps very well.

I've had a couple over the years and they are great little light weight rifles perfect for backyard squirrels. My last one really liked the Rem. Sub-Sonics.

I had a buddy who was an x Marine and he traded/bought himself a Remington 514 with the old "green stamps" that stores used to give many years ago. He was still shooting it when he died about 3 years ago. His was a single shot, I had a single shot Winchester that I have had for years also (a Model 67A). They were both far more accurate than the Ruger 10-22. Pennies at 25 yards were just for warming up. The real test was to start setting up .22lr empty cases that we had fired and then get serious about counting who hit how many. We grew up togather and he was more like a brother than a neighbor. I sure miss my " shooting and hunting buddie". james

I just pulled the rifle off of an old arcade game and it is a sure enough real 514 with the barrel cut down and plugged and with the bolt pinned in place. I am just cleaning it up for a friend that bought the game.

It would be to me... I really like bolt action .22's. I don't have a 514 but do have a 513T that shoots very well.
