I'm negotiating a swap that would end up with me gaining 50-100 lbs of foundry type. I'm dealing dumb on this as I have no idea what it's worth. Anybody got any input as to the "street" value of it. I would have next to no actual cash in my trade goods, just the cost of shipping a LRFB. Never have used any of it either but I can't see any downside to have a box of it on the shelf for the future.

Foundry type is a very hard alloy, rich in antimony. I have never found much use for it.

I personally wouldn't pay more than $2.20/#. That's what I paid for it before.

You could blend it 8 or 10 to 1 WW to Foundry, and have some danged good alloy.

It is very difficult to tell the difference between foundrytype and monotype. Some people say there is a way to tell, but I would just assume I had monotype unless it came with an analysis.

There is a seller in the Vendor sponsors tab that has Foundrytype/Monotype for $2/lb right now. So, that is apparently the going rate. http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?t=159360

Description Tin Antimony
Electrotype 2.50% 2.50%
Linotype 4.00% 12.00%
Stereotype 6.00% 14.00%
Monotype 9.00% 19.00%
Foundrytype 15.00% 23.00%

Well, the deal is done, I have somewhere on the high side of 200 lbs of type metal, supposed to be foundry type, coming my way. End cost will be about $1.50/lb(if it was done for $) but it was all done by trade so my only out-of-pocket cost was $20 to ship my trade goods to the tradee.

I used to have relatives in Chester and Dummerston, still got some in Brattleboro. I was hoping you lived close to, or north of, the Burlington area.

Foundry type is large, headline sized type. Monotype is very small and used for body type. Both are very hard due to a high antimony content. This is a bad photo of monotype:

I have seen monotype before, never eyeballed any foundry type until I got three 68# boxes of it this week. OMG is that stuff HARD!! I put the word out with a couple scrappers that I'm looking for lead today. With a good stash of foundry to mix it with I am now in a position to be able to use soft lead in an alloy. Of course, not anticipating that I sold 120 lbs of pure about a month ago because I didn't have much to mix with it.
