Brass forming 38-55 to 30-30

I know you can go from 30-30 to 38-55 but can you go from 38-55 to 30-30?
I no longer have a 38-55 but do have a 30-30.
I suppose I could sell off the brass but if it isn't too much problems I'd like to reuse it.

I have never tried it, but in theory you should be able to make .30-30's out of .38-55 brass. I do think it would be more trouble and lost cases than it would be worth. Any slight imperfection in the parent case will result in a collapsed shoulder/ creased case.

I would sell the .38-55 brass, (especially if it is the long brass) and buy some new .30-30 brass.

That 38-55 brass should be worth a lot more than the same amount of 30-30. I'd sell it and buy 30-30 or make a trade with someone.

Maybe I should sell the 30-30 stuff and get my 30-30 rebarreled or rebored to 38-55.
I think I'll get everything together for a inventory, brass, bullets, dies etc and see if I can my a package deal on it.

Ditto. .30-30 brass is a glut on the market. You can probably find someone who will happily trade you 2 for 1, .30-30 for .38-55.

the one thing about necking down the 38-55 is you can trim it to EXACT length you need, and if your rifle has a generous neck, you might have some thickening to take up the extra space

as well, the perfect length brass helps with Paper Patching

What nanuk said+...Wayne Schwartz built a .30-30 lead-bullet gun on a Ruger No.1..owner couldn't get decent accuracy..seems the .30-30..(and most others) chamber reamers were purpose built to have xtra long neck..this was messing up C.B. traveling thru throat. Wayne formed .30-30 brass from the .38-55 & trimmed to fill that long neck.
