Not SWC. I shoot most of my 45ACP in revolvers. I am wondering if there is such a thing as a 45 WC like the ones for 38/357. I cant remember ever seeing them.

I have an old Lyman (?) mold, #452428. It is a 230 grain wadcutter. Shoots a 2½-3½" group at 25 yards, using a mid range load and fast powder. I tried pushing it a bit and the groups open up. Not my favorite mold or bullet. Doesn't feed well in my 1911 either. I use it in a Colt 1917 revolver.

I have a Lyman 452389 (185 grain) and a Lee 240 WC ...Lyman used to make a 454309 (235 grain) --I use mine in a Ruger BHK .45 ACP as well as a Marlin Camp Carbine---these hit targest quite hard due to teh WC nose, although a 452460 does as well.

The .455 Webley was at one time loaded using Wadcutters. The MkIII cartridge used a hollow nose along with hollow base and was called the "manstopper". .38 Specials cartridges with hollow base wadcutter loaded backwards were intended to have the same effect. I have one of the .38 cartridges given to a friend by a Air Marshall many years ago, it looks to be factory loaded with a red laquer sealant at the case mouth.

The .455 version with huge open cavities at each end would create a massive wound , especially if it tumbled. It was withdrawn from service after the Hague Convention.

Also Rim Rock (Buffalo Bore uses them) http://www.rimrockbullets.net/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=7&products_id=168
and Penn Bullets http://pennbullets.com/45/45-caliber.html
Both of these would be fantastic choices. I don't like hollow base wadcutters.

Last week I bought NOE 454 250 WC. Been one trip to the range using Bullseye and Herco in 4&5/8" Blackhawk. Pushed at 1100 fps it shredded milk jugs like my heavy loaded 357 (170 grains running north of 1500 fps) and 30/30 loaded with NOE 314008 at 1650 fps.

That big ol full meplat boolit is a mean booger!!! Don't need hollow points. Got all the meplat I need.

Not sure if they still do, but Remington used to offer a .45ACP load with WC ammo, actually more of a button nose, 185gns from memory.

Will those full WCs feed in a 1911?

I've never tried wad cutters in my 1911 but I have shot round balls just for fun :) they fed and fired just fine!

That ammo feeds just fine in that 1911.

I loaded some 200gr swc backwards one time. They fed fine in my very worn Ballister Molina and punched very clean holes in paper at 50feet.

I have and Ideal 454309-431 235 grain, that I use in my SAA full blown wad cutter, my son in law does not like them, I like to load a bunch and see if he can resits not shooting them when we goe to the range.

Lee makes muzzle loader molds called Target Minnie that looks like a big hollow based wadcutter, at least they used to. I picked up the .45 version thinking it would make a neat thing to try as a hollow based wadcutter in my Blackhawks, but I haveyet to cast with it.

Seems to me that Lee called it a .450, but that was probably measured with pure lead in mind, so it may cast bigger with some tin in the mix and with the hollow base, it may do OK.

That is really cool you can get a 1911 to function with full wadcutters, I wouldn't have figured it would. Did you have to do any mods to the pistol?

My experience with Rim Rock cast bullets has been less than stellar. His weights on some batches have been good and others have varied greatly. I've ordered .358 and received .357 sized bullets. Communication with the company has netted me nothing but nice words or excuses. Never once an offer to make it right.

Just my experience over three orders.

Penn bullets have been exactly what I ordered and always the correct size. A little slow sometimes but always a quality and consistent product.

If your 1911 is set up right it should be able to feed empty cases, so that will depend upon your 1911 being set up correctly, but if so then yes it will feed fine.

Correct Magazine feed lip angles, polished ramp and hood, Extractor clearance within tolerance for brass used and timed to ride into groove and not try snap over rim of case.

I used to load a 200gr 452488 upside down in a 45 Colt for PPC so the holes would be clean cut. I called it my 200gr BTWC, and it was accurate even at the 50yd line. Had a lot of fun with that M28 Smith, It always shot better than the factory M25-5 , throats I guess.
