I have been wanting to load up some .45 Colt Rounds with the Berry's Cast/Copper Plated .230gn Bullets. Of course I want to shoot them but I also thing they look really good in a Belt or Bandolier because of the Copper Plated Bullet.

Do any of you have any experience with .45 Colt using .230gn RN Bullets?

Any pet loads out there?

Bullets? What are bullets? All we got around here are boolits. ;-)

Sorry about that, but I have no per load for copper clads. Something with Unique, I suppose.

I cast the 230g TC boolits from a Lee mould and stuff them with 5.3g W231/HP38.

Feel just like factory, hit hard with the flat metplat and are accurate.

7.5 grains of Unique is my prefered load with cast 230 grain RN. 452-374. It groups better than factory in my Ruger, but hits a tad higher. Lyman's #4 cast boolit handbook shoes 7.4 grains to start and a max of 9.3 with the RCBS 45-230 CM.

You are correct about that my friend! I must have had a brain fart causing me to misspelled Boolits. My Bad!

Same as 250 gr. .45 Colt, 6.0 gr. Red Dot works nicely with 230 gr. RN.

I use 5.2 gr of Bullseye at 890 fps and 4.7 gr of American Select at 830 fps.

I have a Ruger Blackhawk in this caliber. I have yet to find any light cast bullet that offers acceptable accuracy and I have tried many with various powders and sizing the bullets with a variety of different sizing dies. I finally gave up and use just two bullets--the Lee 240 WC (NLA) and a Lyman 452424... both are very accurate.

I have a .45 ACP cylinder for the Ruger...have found the same deal--it likes heavier bullets---the 454190 works very nicely.

I suppose you want a light bullet load to conserve lead...as did I. I finally bite the bullet (pardon the pun and made a sand box bullet trap. Now I shoot them often, as I can recover 95% of them to re-use...

Whoa to my post! JohnnyFlake I misread your OP and gave my load for the .45 ACP. Never have I loaded 5.2 gr of Bullseye in the Long Colt brass, that’s my ACP load. Disregard.

My pet 230 gr boolit load in the .45 revolver is 7.0 gr of Unique –in Schofield brass for 800 fps. I cast the Lyman 452374. Schofield brass is available from Starline and is very high quality.

I stick with the 250 gr boolit in the Long Colt brass and load 8.7 gr of Unique. In Bullseye the .45 Long Colt brass clocks at 785 fps with a 250 boolit with a 6.3 gr charge. I kicked up my Bullseye charge to 6.8 gr with a 250 gr boolit but I quit using it and stick with Unique.
Sorry for the confusion – I am the one confused here.

I used to cast 452460 SWC and it is real accurate. I quit it because I felt dumb topping off a cavernous 100+ year old black powder hull with such a tiny boolit. But I’d recommend it for accuracy and maybe the Starline brass.

Please forgive my off subject wanderings, I’ve done over 40 hours of overtime on the last two paychecks and am a little rummy.

That cigar sure looks good.
