I got this mold in trade with some others and although it is destined for the classified section i would like to know it's origin.

The number on the block is 356402 which as far as i can find comes back to a 9mm mold.

This mold cast's .362 and about 212 - 214 gr. with w.w.

So my question is, would it be within reason to assume that this is a paper patch mold that was milled from a 9mm mold ?

There is no question that the mold numbered 356402 was and still is a 9mm mold made by Lyman. It was a truncated conical nose design so someone did indeed recut the cavities for whatever it is now. LLS

I think someone took a drill bit to your 356402 mold.

I'd guess, based on the "bullet" shape, that it was repurposed to cast cores for swaging.

Yea that sure is what it looks like. what a bummer, i would've liked to have had the 9mm mold.
Instead i got the "drill bit" mold.

Given the weight, I'd guess they were intended as cores for a .44 or .45 swaging project. Too heavy for a 10 mm/.40/.41 handgun, they'd be around 230+ with jackets -- on the heavy end of .44 Mag or .45 Colt, or the light end of .444 or .45-70.

I think you're probably right. When i got this stuff there was several Corbin swaging dies in with it and one of them was a .44 die.
I sold them here but don't remember who ended up with that one.

Might make an interesting project base for a paper patched .375 bullet.

Don't dispare , you have a "one of a kind" Ventage/Antique mold that you can sell on Flea Bay for enough $$ to buy your self a brand new mold[smilie=1:
