....a pre-war S&W K-32, sold on Gunbroker last night, went for $12,995. Yep, almost thirteen thousand smackers, and there were fifteen bids on a revolver which had the bidding start at three grand.

I reckon there are people who are a LOT more-dedicated fans of S&W revolvers than I am, and with MUCH deeper pockets, too. Perhaps I might cough up as much as a thousand bucks for a particularly appealing specimen, IF it fell within my narrow interests and especially, IF I had such an amount of money in "discretionary" form. That last item could be a real problem, believe me...I don't recall when the last time was that I was in that happy situation.

I betcha that sweet .32 won't see much fresh air and sunlight, either.

That's why I had one built up about 10 years ago. I got a K-38 for the frame, a K-22 cylinder, one of the 6" full-lug Model 16 barrels from GPC, and bought a set of reamers (done to very tight tolerances), and had a pistolsmith put them all together. For substantially less than $1000 I got a tight custom K-32 that shoots extremely well and goes with me up into the mountains each summer to shoot ground squirrels, and during the winter months makes a first class wadcutter gun.

Now, that 32 is now considered art and is not a gun. ... felix

There were only about 1,600 of the K-32 Masterpiece 32 S&W Long models made, so the collector types have REALLY pushed the prices past ridiculous on these scarce examples. I have one of the later-series Model 16-4 variants in 32 Magnum, and it is a KEEPER for sure!

Way to make me feel bad. I have seen about a half-dozen for sale on gunshow tables over the last 30 to 40 years. I wanted one and looked at each and every one of them carefully. It was always too expensive for me.

Early on, it was 1-1/2 times as expensive as a K-38. Then twice as much. Then even higher. The last one I saw was over 10 years ago in the $1,600 -$1,800 range, or about 5 times as expensive as a K-38.

I saw a cobbled-up fake one a few years ago that someone was trying to pass off. It had a K-32 barrel and cylinder, but was put on a Model 10 frame with an add-on adjustable rear sight (on the side). They called it a "Canadian K-32". I should have bought it and put them on a correct frame, but they wanted $1,000 for it.

I did get a NewModel K-32 and have rechambered it to 32-20. I may regret that in a few years. The price of NewModel K-32's is taking off, too. For the .32 Long and .32 Magnum, I have a J-frame KitGun that works very well.

Just think what my $250.00 post war K-32 would be worth, minus the bead blast finish! Sad to say but I'd still probably hang onto it.
