Is this an alloy you already have?

If not, and it is one you plan to make, you don't need that much tin. The lino already has 4% tin, which is all you really need.

If it "is" already made up, you can dilute the tin ratio down by adding more lead and lino.

A mix of 30% lino and 70% lead actually has more antimony and tin than wheel weight alloy, which makes a good general use alloy.

There is an XL spread sheet a shooter made and posted on the Cast Bullet Assoc. forum.
Just add the # in the appropriate blanks and it gives you %'s and a BHN
your recipe comes out to be ;
5.95 % tin, 3.60 % Antimony

Please be more specific

deleat the 5% tin from the mix as its very expensive and up the percentages of linotype to 35 /40% and you shold have about WW alloy hardness

Fellas - download Open Office Suite, for free, has all the exel and word stuff that works well. Just doesn't look quite the same. Works with any OS.

bumpo has a link to an alloy computer right in his sig line.

here's how i quickly figure my alloy numbers.
if i am using ww's i call them .5 and 3. the .5 being tin and the 3 being antimony.
now i add up all of my .5's and all my 3's then add up the composition of what i am adding say linotype at 4 and 12.
so if i mix 4 lbs of ww's to 1 lb of lino the math looks like this.
.5+.5+.5+.5+4 =6 then i divide the 6 by the total weight of 4 giving me 1.5% tin.
and the antimony is 3+3+3+3+12=24 divided by the total weight of 4 giving me 6% antimony.
so my final alloy is 1.5/6/92.5 simple and effective and accurte [unlike my typing]

It depends on what you want to end up with.
What you have is
90.21% lead 3.60%antimony 6.20%tin
at a total value of $2.46 per pound

adding more lead is just going to leave you with the same problem.
only with less sb and sn in the mix.
you could cut it down untill you have about 1/2% antimony and about 1% tin and start over.
or cut what you have with a low tin alloy to make up the difference.
if you added ww's with thier low tin content you could add 6 lbs of them to one lb of what you have to make ww alloy with @1% tin added.

if you only have linotype and pure,
you can make up a batch of 1 part linotype to 3 parts of lead which would give a 1/3/96 alloy.
you could then mix that with what you have in the 6 or even 7 to 1 ratio to come out closer to 2/3/95 which would be a good alloy.
