Going to be loading the .45-70 for bird and squirrel and wondered how y'all are loading yours with BP. Shot size will probably be #7.5.

Thanks

It appears that 20 to 25 grns will do the trick.

I have used 40 gr FFFG GOEX. two .060 fiber wads, two felt wads, 1/2 OZ of shot with a .060 fiber wad over the shot. I compressed the powder and wad column before loading the shot about 1/8 inch. This load was OK out to 15 to 20 feet but the patterns were ineffective on grouse beyond that range. I had poor results with it so went to using a single round ball and going for head shots. I did better with them.

Thanks, I will give that load a try.
