I just cast up my first batch of 00 buckshot with the Lee 18 cavity mold.

Most of my failure to fill outs were on the bottom ball. So what if I were to cut off the glob that didn't fill the mold, and load 4 of the 00 twins (without separating them) in a blasting/non-hunting load.

The 4 twin 00's fit nicely in a WW hull with a white wad and 19.5 grains of Green dot. My guess is most of these will separate on firing, but what's lost if that's the case? Heck I figure if that happens, I just saved myself a step.

Has anyone else here tried this?

Not tried it, but firing at a large sheet of paper, or better yet cardboard, should tell you if they seperate or not. Let us know if you try.

BTW, here's how 18lbs of wheel weights broke down.

Took me about 90 minutes to cast these. About the same to sort, inspect, and separate them.

I will for sure post results when I test these.

yup it works well putting 00 next to each other 2 per level
if ya criss cross the 00 they come out in pairs and hit about 1'' apart at 25 yards
No. 1 buck works as well for the 20 ga
seen them flip a deer over at 10 yards out of a 20 ga. side by side :holysheep

I use this method for low recoil loads
6 00 at 1300 fps and no recoil

Just to make sure I'm reading that right, you're saying the pairs stayed connected all the way to the target?

not sure how the connected 00 will work
this was single pellets nothing connected
stacked in the case side by side [pairs]
hit the target in pairs 1'' apart in a 12'' pattern

hope this helps

Sorry, when you said pairs I thought you meant connected like the OP's are coming out of the mould.

I posted the same load here 2x by 4 high, in a WinAA, and white WAA12 Hull and load data for a 1oz load.
They hold on a 9" plate easily out to 25 yards though a cylinder bore smooth bore slug barre.
The shot cup wad helps the shot hold pattern tighter than flat wad alone, as well as isolates lead from the barrel.

I have done a test in the past on 00 .I use my 410 for the test.I use the same load as I have with shot for bird and rabbit.and the wads. I have cast my own 00 . where you cur the spur off it dose not matter what mold you use.You will have a sharp edge on it.and I shot some and the patten is all over the place. there was no set patten.I was 15 to 20 yards. Then I rolled them to take off the edge off to make them round and then at the same test of 15 to 20 yeads I got a patten on it and that is at 15 years I got a 5" patten and that is only 4 00 . and then at 20 yards I got a 7" patten. that is how I found out about that the 00 need to be rolled to take off the sharp edges to have a patten and it works great for when you cast your own.
