Hey guys, please forgive me if this has been posted before. I bought the 115 grain gas check LFP mold from Ranch Dog. This is a .313 boolit intended for the .32-20 WCF but I am using it quite successfully in my .32 H&R Magnum and would also like to use it in my Marlin .30-30 rifles. I think it would be a dandy practice and small game boolit at 2,000-2,300 fps. Powders I have on hand include Alliant Bullseye and Unique, Accurate #2 and #5, Hodgdon H110, Titegroup, 4227, and Varget. I have purchased a .310 sizing die for it as this is what seems to work best in the micro groove Marlins. Any suggestions out there?

I have used Lee's 309-113 in my 06' and my 30-30, nice sneeze-type loads, and 25 ft accurate to boot.

Any favorite loads for it?

I have used Lee's C309-120-R in my 1903 Springfield in 30-06. I originally intended it for use in .30 Carbine, but it works well in the 30-06 also with 10 grains of Unique.

Here is what I had to say earlier.
A few other comments may shed some light on some good ideas.

I shoot a gas checked 313-115 LBT FN from an AE Trapper 30/30. 11.5 gr of Unique will move it to about 1800'/s +or - 10. I've used 700X to about 8 gr with the 311316 gas checked Lyman (118gr) to get 1525'/s. ReDot will do similar. The Trapper is a lot of fun with this load - about like a 22 Mag on steroids.:groner:

you need to watch the crimp On the tube mags . they will shift if you dont crimp good.
A lee FC might be in your buget . for the tube mags .

Also, if you are gonna shoot that fast, make sure your sights have enough elevation adjustment to cover the lighter, faster boolit

311008 and 8.5 gr Unique is my go-to load for silhouette chickens. Shoots like a .22 out of my 26" Buffalo Bill Comm. I use a Lee factory crimp die for all my 30-30 loads...

About a year or so ago I sized up some 311316 boolits and gave them to a brother to try loading some plinkers for his post-64 Winchester "truck gun". I told him to check my Cast Bullet manual and try Unique first. He and a friend of his went shooting, and now my brother has a favorite plinking load---beer-can-at-75 yard accuracy right away. I don't recall what he said he used for a load so I'll only say that it was not the bottom end of the book nor the top. A happy camper and a lifelong tinkerer, he's now trying to invent himself a boolit trap that he can take shooting with him in order to recapture range lead. He even joined Cast Boolits.

Sounds good, guys. I do have the factory crimp die and plan to use it. Looks like Unique or 2400 just might be a winner here. Just how high do you think I could safely go with Unique?Anyone use Hodgdon 110 for this application? I know Hodgdon likely frowns on it but there are lots of successful reports of 110 in lever actions.

Thanks. In a modern Marlin 336 I wonder how much Unique you can safely use?

I loaded 115 RNFP GC (Lee version) over 15.5 grains of 2400 for a coworkers 30-30.

Accurate and performed for him in a 94 lever

It looks like the consensus for pistol powders is 2400. I wonder how well one of the common cast boolit powders such as H4895, BL-C(2), or Reloder 7 would do?

Thanks, I will do that. I have some H4227 that needs to be turned into noise.

Loaded up some rounds yesterday with 15 and 15.5 grains of Hodgdon 4227. The 115 grain slugs look like they were made for the .30 WCF. I also noticed that Hodgdon now gives the exact same data for both versions of 4227. Hopefully the current IMR version is as good as the old H4227 was. I found it to be an excellent powder for medium strength .357's and full power .38's.

I finally had a chance to try out the loads today in my 336 Texan. At 35 yards with a shaky bipod rest the rounds performed superbly with both charges. I even got a 3 shot cloverleaf on the bullseye. It was very easy to keep all rounds within an inch of each other in spite of the fuzzy, imprecise factory sights and 40 lb. trigger pull. Cleaning revealed no noticeable leading and very modest fouling. When my funding improves I'm going to put a receiver sight and Partridge front on the carbine, which should make it perform even better. Very good day!!
