I just ordered an RCBS 45-230-CM after reading some good reviews on the web (including posts here). I'll be shooting them in my Colt SAA's, sized to .454 for the large chamber throats.

Does anyone know approx. what size they drop from the mold? I'm hoping around .455. I know that depends on factors like what alloy, temp, etc. I'll probably be using WW lead.

Also, does anyone have a schematic for this bullet? All I can find is a picture of the mold and bullet.

Thanks!
JD

Mine drops .455" but the mold is five years old and won't be cut by the same cherry as yours.

Thanks, Mr. S. Looks like it's gonna arrive today. Hopefully it'll drop like yours. Can't wait to cast and try these out.

I use that bullet for SASS shooting and my general all-around bullet in my Rugers and LA rifles. Great bullet.

That's exactly what I want it for--SASS. Good to hear that you like it. Thanks!

Did you have any positive to say about your 45-230 boolits? I am looking to get same one.

Did you get a recent production mold - what does it drop for you?

I use these boolits in .45 AR brass for my S&W 325NG. I size them to .452 and load them over 4.5 grains of Red Dot. With my alloy (Lyman #2) they drop at 225 grains. This is a very nice shooting range load in my Night Guard. I haven't shot them over my chronograph yet. One of these day I will.

Cheers,

Rick

What would be a good alloy to use in this mold for SASS? I've got a large supply of pure lead but will have to buy the alloys from Rotometals so what % of what would be good.

Mine also casts at .455" and with my alloy (CWW +2% Sn) 231 grains. Mine also is 4-5 years old.

You should have yours by now, what did it cast for you?

I have one of these molds new as of last Christmas. Don't know what the bullet drop at since I size them to .452 and they size and shoot very nicely for cowboy shooting. I have noticed that they weigh in at about 250gr with COWW. Any idea on how to lighten them up. They're a great bullet for smokeless and BP with that big fat lube groove.

Thanks

See my post #6. I use this bullet sized .452 @230 gr from a 2% tin, 3% antimony alloy & air cooled. Drops at .454, easy sizing to .452. Lar's CR lube. For SASS I shoot it over WST in my Ruger SA's and Uberti Yellowboy or Marlin for 9-10 years now. Clean the guns once a year for carbon buildup, never any leading. Also works great in my Redhawk 45 Colt.
