I have a 4" 629 that I firelapped today and fired some different loads in.

19 AA9 / 250 .431" LFNGC

20 AA9 / 250 .431" LFNGC

21 AA9 / 250 .431" LFNGC

All cases came out easy.

The cylinder throats are almost .432". A .432" bullet won't go without forcing it, so I opted for the .431".

I was shooting at 15 yards, and the cast groups were over double in size what my standby load of 19 AA9 240 JHP does.

I've always had good groups out of cast, but I've never used LFN's before. Is there some trick I'm missing?

Thanks!

The powder charges are about right as well as bullet dia ! you stait you have a 250gr LFN bullet , they are supposed to stablize at less than full velocity . You may have problems with the WFN if not driven at close to full velocity . Perhaps a silly question but did you clean out all the jacket fouling before shooting cast bullets. Possibly the bullet is not stablized at that distance ? try 25 yards
I have the LBT 300gr gc lfn for my 454 Casull and it shoots excellent from 1,000 to 1,600 fps @25 yards & beyound in my handguns.
I have run into a cast bullet that refused to shoot with a array of loads in any gun i tried them in. ive checked everything as far as the bullet goes , one thing thats different form my other bullets is the front driving band is alot norrower than my others .

The bearing surface on this bullet is obviously shorter than a WFN or a JHP.

Another thing I'm suspicious about is the forcing cone on this revolver. It's pretty long. Some of my other Smiths are shorter.
