My mailman doesn't carry mace but he must have an unlimited supply of pepper spray.Poor man is scared to death of dogs , and my neighbors little dog loves to chase him.He has already stopped making door deliveries to their house.Sometimes their dog chases him when he is delivering something to my house.I always try and meet him in the drive but I can't be there every single time.He always has the can in hand and his head is on a swivel.I was thinking the USPS must have this stuff issued.That would explain why they are so broke as well.I just hope their dog doesn't cause me to have to go to the post office and pick up packages.BTW if they do issue this stuff it is a waste , it doesn't slow the little dog down at all.

The USPS does issue pepper spray and provides training in its use, not to say that some like your carrier are paranoid and spray everything in sight. I don't have current figures, but several thousand carriers, including rural carriers are bitten every year because people won't control their daxx dogs! "She won't bite you." Yeah, right, she's fully equipped from the get-go. The USPS has the right and will stop delivery to an address where the owner refuses to control their dog. Here endeth the epistle. GW

I told one lady that if someone's dog bit me when I was doing what I was supposed to be doing, that it was carved in stone that the dog would Never bite anyone else. But that's just me.

Years ago we had a neighborhood where no one tied their dogs. There must have been at least seven or eight running around at any given time. Now we all know that dogs HATE anyone in a uniform, but we had this one mailman who carried a pocket full of dog biscuts and he always had a string of dogs following him around. They would pick him up at the end of the street and stay with him until he got back in his little truck again. I came to the conclusion that most dogs are a lot like people and respond to the way they are treated just as we do. As to the op, if you were a dog and some clown dressed you up like that how would you react? LOL!!!
