No need at all. You can shoot .45 Colt brass all you want, just clean chambers after.
You can also download .454 brass.
No different then .38 SP in a .357 or a .44 SP in the magnum. Been done forever and ever.
In general, the longer brass will be a tad more accurate because it limits carbon buildup and lets the boolit enter the throats for alignment but the right boolit will solve that.

In my FA 454 I have been shooting 18 grains of 2400 under a LEE 300 grain boolit, and sparked by a cci small pistol primer. When I get my new scope mounted next week, I will be trying 7 grains of red dot under the 454424 and the 300 LEE. Should make for a terrific reduced recoil target load.

Sure, sounds very good.
I think the premise of a different cylinder is because so many shoot factory .454's and can't download. But there is no reason factory .45's can't be shot.
I shot a lot of .480 loads from my .475 and they only lacked a tiny bit of accuracy compared to the longer brass.

One thing I noticed, (like 44 man pointed out before) is that I couldn't get good accuracy with milder loads, using small rifle primers. As soon as I switched to small pistol primers in 454 brass, my problems went away. After hunting season, I want to revisit the 45 vs 454 accuracy issue in this gun. It will be interesting to see how it shakes out. For right now though, I'll keep feeding it 454's, until I get my antelope tags punched.

The change is not drastic and just might be a slower load versus twist rate and not case length.
Anyway, good luck with the goats.
