There is a real interesting thread on the wheelguns section that really is making me think of all the great guns that have gone by the wayside in favor of cheaper, utility weapons that can be pushed on the general consumer for higher profit. So, Not just handguns, but ANY firearms, what would you like to see again? I will start.

Remington "Nylon" 77 and 66 models.
Winchester 21 double shotgun.
Remington 40X target rifles
Pre 64 magnum action (H&H length) winchesters

If you would like to include a story of why you would like to see these again or share a memory, I would like to hear about it!

Ha! Now there is a classic! My dad has several, but he loves his 7-08 carbine. He also has a 6mm in left hand bolt, but right eject! Now go figure on that one!

Winchester 1897 pump shotguns. I grew up on one, and I loved it.
1. Colt woodsman pistols
2. Remington model 8 (spoken of in hushed and reverent terms) My dad has one with a 30 round clip.
3. Don't hate me for throwing the Remington Nylon 66 in there too, they were cheap, but amazing.
4. The pre-64 model 70 goes without saying (I know they claim that they are remaking them, but they are so expensive, you might as well get a vintage rifle)

I still say Ruger should bring back the Security Six and Speed Six.
I've been wearing my Security Six all day today. I love this gun.

As far as long guns go, I agree with goodsteel about the 1897 Winchester shotgun. I'd even buy a 1887 as well if they made them again.

Hmmm, not sure if ther is enough space but a few that come to mind is the Winchester 1911SL, 1897/1903 Colt Hammerless in .32 & 380, all the Colt Snakes (Cobra to the Anaconda), single shot Stevens "Favorite" rolling block (except in center fire calibers & .22S-LR), have to think of a few more.

Yes on the Winchester Model 97! I too cut my teeth on one well over a half century ago. I still use them to this day 10's of thousands of shotshells later!

The full line of Winchester Model 92's and Model 86's too. I like to see the Winchester Hi-Wall and Low-Wall singleshots also return.

The 1903-A3's and A4's, also.
I heard, but havent verified that someone was either already reproducing the garands or was going to. I dont remember who.

You read right, 30 rounds of 35 remington as fast as you can pull the trigger. Very accurate and it likes cast lead boolits. The gun has the regular magazine hard mounted to it, but the big one is packed away safe somewhere.
I keep hoping that gun will be under my Christmas tree some year, but so far, that fat sucker at the north pole just aint gettin the message!

someone made them, i talked my pop into a 45 colt one some years back.
the might not even make them anymore.
i bought a taurus one and didn't have it a week.

since i am here,i'd just like to see modern versions of classic rifles be made with some quality and effort, and made in something other than 44 mag,357,and 45 colt type rounds.
you know a little class and maybe not so much profit margin.

It seems like I read somewhere that those were made for law enforcement back in the day. As I recall the article said Frank Hamer's bunch had a couple during the Bonnie & Clyde shootout.

That is correct according to my dad. He told over and over growing up that that was the same style gun that they used to shoot up Bonnie and Clyde.
I actually got to see the Bonnie and Clyde car with my own eyes in a museum in Arizona and it certainly had a bunch of 35 caliber holes along with the 45s.

A model 8 with 30 rounds would be a formidable weapon indeed.

Couldn't agree more, Bob. I have always liked the looks of the BARs that I have seen, but never held one. Then Dad says Come Over and on his porch there is a new pelican case as big as I am and almost as heavy. Inside is a BRAND NEW BAR!!! Lemme tell you guys something...... there is a REASON that case has wheels. I did not weigh it, but I think that BAR weighs around 25 pounds without the mag, bipod, or carry handle.

My opinion is that we can find any of the classics mentioned far more affordably on the used market today than modern companies would want for new versions. Worse than that an you imagine what new versions would end up like? Think of Maureen O' Hara with a bar code tattoo on her neck and a stud in her lip at a PETA rally.

I strongly suggest that you not look at the prices.

As I recall, Springfield Armory was making the M1 Garand a decade or so back, but when I checked their website it did not list it as one of their products. I do think as the cost of the original WWII/Korea battle rifles continues to rise that it will become advantageous to start making them again. I love the M1!!!

Iver Johnson model 2X single shot 22 rimfire. My dad had one 55 years ago when I was growing up, it would shoot minute of bottle cap at 25 yards, we spent about half an hour looking for a 30-30 case I hit at about 40 yards when I was kid. (That was when my eyes could still see the sights). We spent countless hours hunting with that rifle, it was always a treat when it was your turn to pack it instead of the .410. My brother has it now, he wanted the 22, I got all the rest.

I'll Second the "Stevens Favorite" IF it is re-engineered to improve its action strengths while not greatly increasing it complexity nor weight.

Yes, Savage is building the "Model 30" but it is larger, heavier, and rougher than the old "Stevens Favorite".

There have been many guns listed that I agree with. Here are some of mine:

Remington No. 2 Rolling Block in .22 LR, .32S&WL, and .38 Special.

An affordable entry level .22 that is big enough to last a shooter a lifetime. The little Crickets and the like fit young kids, but they have outgrown them by the time they are 12 years old.

Affordable ammo and components sitting on the shelves of the local gunshops.

Another vote for the Garand

Would also like to see Miroku do a run of the Model '76 Winchester in a real super high quality fit/finish with the original spec. 2X Dlx. walnut pistol grip checkered stock in the piano finish. Half octagon barrel, color cased receiver, set trigger, windage and tang tights, butt trap. The whole shootin' match.
An original '76 Winchester in that configuration and in say 80% condition would probably cost about the same as a new car; a pretty nice car.

Just a couple others calling for the 1895 Winchester sans stupid and hazardous rebound hammer and tang safety. .30-40, .30-06, .35 Wheelan and .405 Win for caliber offerings, of course one could also add .25-06, .280 Rem and .270 Win for the less robust shooters.

Would also like to see 99 Savage with early lower tang safety in .250, .30-30, .300, and lengthened to take .308 and .358, with rotary mag, cartridge counter and choice of octagon or round barrel.

Don't want much bus since I am wishing, wish for the best.

Several guns suggested here for rebirth I already have and enjoy. But I have been looking for Rem in M-8 and M-14 preferably in .35 Rem. Oldest son loves anything in a pump.

Was over at my favorite LGS this morning and my friend the owner was showing me a Savage 99 he had traded for in .30 WCF. It was smooth mouthed (way we describe a very old cow), but beautiful. No bluing left, clean dark bore and you can tell it had been carried for many years in loving hands. It is beautiful--could wind up over at my house. We were discussing this very topic of how much it would have to sell for if we could buy a new Savage 99 today.

Part of my fun is in trying to find these old favorites on my wish and like lists, but I probably would buy and shoot several of these classics if reintroduced.

Ex BIL once asked me just how many guns does a man need and my reply was "Just one more."

Winchester 62A (my first gun in the late 40's)...Winchester 97 12 ga. (Fed my wife and I during College years)...1917 Enfield (I have a Sears model of it with a Ted Williams scope)--the one I had in the 50's and 60's (yes, sporterized) also helped put a lot of food on the table over the years. I never had a 66 but always wanted one...now that I can afford one I can't find a nice one. Saw mention of the 21 Winchester double...I had the "cheap younger brother" which was a model 24...absolutely shot it so loose it was a real hazard...lots of pheasants gave up to it.

Rock Island Armory does build a 1911 in 38 Super and I own one so the next item on my list to be rebuilt is a Destroyer Carbine in either 38 Super so there is an easy one-two punch for the camp.

I would like to see...

The Ruger MK line of 22's rolled back toward the MKII era with less ridiculous features that diminish reliability.

Savage 99's are beautiful guns. They have their own charm.

I love the Ruger Six (security, speed, service...) line as well. For the size of a GP100 or S&W 686 I may as well carry around my Redhawk. I bet they would put it out again but they probably figure they'd only be competing with their own market.

I'd like to see Colt make some quality revolvers again so they'd come down in price enough for me to see what all the fuss is about.

Though I've never had one I've always had interest in a S&W 610. I've always been intrigued by 10mm and 40s&w interchangeability sounds nice. Those who use them say they are really accurate as well.

Savage 99. Make it right and you won't have to sell it cheap. Ask Harley Davidson. Wouldn't a 99 in 6.5 Creedmore be sweet? I have an old takedown. Who specializes in 99 bbls?

I don't know of anyone who specializes in 99 barrels.
Internet on Savage sites mentioned some shops
http://www.gostomskisgunsmithing.com/
http://www.downeastgunworks.com/

you could always PM GoodSteel aka Tim Malcolm from this site and ask

if those didn't pan out then I'd start with this list of talented GS and call them in turn

A modern cartridge shooting Le Matt.
There was a centerfire version in 12mm Perrin or 11mm Chamelot-Delvigne, with a 24 gauge shot barrel was made in later years in Belgium.

But as it's got a smooth bore shotgun barrel less than 18 inches it would have classification under NFA ruling either as short barreled shotgun or Any Other Weapon depending upon how they wanted to classify it. That a Taurus Judge avoids the AOW/SBS definition by having a rifled barrel and pistol caliber (45 colt).

Quite a few years ago, I managed one of my infrequent visits to my favorite Canadian gun store (1300 miles from home).

They had a stack of individually-boxed-up Aussie L1A1 rifles that had to contain at least 500 rifles.... it was HUGE. The store was a major importer/distributor in Canada, and often had interesting items.

I didn't buy a rifle at that time, but later owned at least five or six of the Lithgow-built L1A1 rifles.

They were all imported with the "safety sear" STILL INSTALLED. This simple fact allowed easy conversion (ten minutes) to full-automatic function....... don't ask how i know.

It was fun, but we re-discovered a known fact... full auto in a ten-pound .308 is a great way to burn ammo without hitting very much of anything in the way of rifle targets.

We were paying around $200 for these rifles, back in the late '70s.

The Savage 99 would top my list. I'm also a fan of the Remington 788.

For handguns, mu Security Six is my go to handgun and I love it, wish they still made it.

I think they still make some incarnation of the Ithaca 37, but I wish they still made an affordable field grade version of it.

All good suggestions, Rich.

You're right, Ithaca Gun Company, LLC does still make the Model 37, and it's actually better than ever, but not exactly in the "Feather Light" category any more due to tougher steels and thicker barrels. I believe they go about 1lb over the earlier ones. As for price, I think MSR for a field grade M-37 is just shy of $900.00, but they're very nice, classic, and nothing cheap about them at all. They do make some "specialty" M-37's with lesser finishes and materials for less, but the classic '37 isn't a cheap gun to make. It's like making a Model-12 again the way they were made before 1964.

I would love to see the Australian Made 7.62 Enfield imported into the US, for whatever reason that does not happen but I wish it would, that thing uses M14 magazines not really an SMLE or a No 4 but I want it none the Less. Modern steel and a picatinny rail scope mount to ease mounting of optics.

Savage 99 straight grip 284 win & 375 win, Savage 24 in 308/12 ga with switch barrel capabilities, H&R 15" single action 22, a good american made double barrel like the stevens or springfield (WHAT HAPPENED TO THE AMERICAN DOUBLE BARREL), Goodsteel had a good one the huntsman, woodsman, or target pistols, and probably a few more with thought. Notice basically that the repeaters other than bolt actions are declining in new gun availability for hunting arms and the 223's and the like are gaining. Do they still make a Gold Cup.
