I was given a 10 cavity 148 gr .38 mould last month. It is massive. It was rusted shut when I got it. I soaked it in oil and a friend lightly sand blasted the cavities and now they are clean.

It is massive and I would like to know who made it. The bullet looks like Lyman's 358495

Looks like a Hensley and Gibbs.

As in H&G.

Nice find !! lookes like a Infamous H&G mould !
YKES lightly sand blasted I hope you ment soda or walnut blast media! possibly a quick way to ruin a mould as well as with a wire wheel ,Dont ask! that mould metal is actually a soft alloy ,but it was maybe junk when you got it .

looks like one, but most of them were marked hensley or gibbs or hensley and gibbs.
or at least had a number like #50/#48 etc on them.

Yup, that's an H&G. As for sand blasting it, OUCH! Next time you have a rusted mould, before doing anything, give it an overnight soaking in a product called Evapo-rust. It's a rust remover that's truly amazing!

By sand blasting it, there's a possibility that you ruined the mould, or at least made it into a mould that will cast less than perfect boolits. Considering the price you paid for it, and the quality it was in, even if you did 'destroy' it, you're not out much. When considering a mould ruined, if it can still cast a boolit, and that boolit shoots well no matter how 'bad' the boolits look, is it really ruined? But, please learn from the mistake, and use a good rust desolver like Evapo-rust in the future.

In looking at your mould, it looks like it's an H&G#50, so look on the mould blocks, there should be #50 on there somewhere.

Boy, I hope the sandblasting was near zero - good way to ruin a great mold.

Look for a "50" and "H&G" on it somewhere. It is likely an H&G 50 mold, a very
high quality mold - before it rusted.

H&G 50 BB. The mould was scaled and the sand used was extremely fine. Casts OK

Wow!
I have a 6 cavity H&G #48 that allowed me to sell my barbell set. I hope you have very strong wrists. These big moulds will give you arms like Popeye. :kidding:
Pour off some boolits and let us see the finished product. Congratulations on your find. The #50 is a fine boolit.

They only weigh 7 lbs. Put one on a scale and see for yourself.
