Just want to see what peoples responses are out there on what molds in .45 they use and like to shoot. What makes that mold what you like so well about it? Is there also anything special you do in making your rounds. Just curious to see what responses are out there. Reason is is I got the .45 bug again and traded a rifle for a new 1911 so it will be time soon to cast this round and reload it.... Let me know guys ok.... Pictures also if you would like to show them off.... Thanks !!!!

I use this mold. MP-Molds H&G #68:

These are what it makes (well except the one on the right):

The reason I went with this is what I read online, I've only ever seen positive things about the H&G 68 design, it makes a nice round hole in targtes, it feeds flawlessly in my 1911 and it's superbly accurate. And with that mold I could also get it in a SWCHP version.

I also use the MP moulds 200 swc except mine is a 4 cav all solid mould.

Why? Use one of his moulds in brass and you won't have to ask again.

Oh yeah, they also shoot very, very well.

I'm happy with the Lyman 452374 for my 1911. It's proven to be quite accurate.
For my Ruger .45 colts I like MiHa's 270 SAA and the Ruger ONLY 330gr solid.
These 3 have been very accurate and easy to work with.

The 452374 is a good oldie and I have an old lyman 4 cavity mold probably from the 60's or 70's. I also run the 453640 HP'd at around 230 grains out of my 45 auto. I believe there are currently group buys going on for both of these designs. I've also had good results with Lee's 452-230-TC design. There's others but these three I've had best results.

Ditto for the Lee 230-TC...mine is the TL...shoots very well in my Ruger Blackhawk and a Marlin .45 Camp Carbine.

I really like the LEE .452 RNF conventional-lube design in a six-cavity (cannot remember the number at the moment). Yeah, I had to "prep" the mould for good casting, but the quality of boolits it throws is quite good and the PRODUCTION rate is superb! I have Lyman and RCBS .452 moulds also in two-cavity versions, but the production rate of the LEE is just dandy!

Lyman 452460. 200 gr. SWC . first double cavity mould I bought ,1974. has allways dropped bullets like a good mould should and bullets have been accurate in every 45 acp I've shot them in, be they 1911 or various revelvors I've owned.

My latest 45 is a Taurus model 455 , it's a snub nosed , 5 shot revolver thats ported. Think Smith model 60 in 45 acp... This bullet and 5 grains Unique is more accurate than it should be. There is something cool about big bore snub nosed revolvers, can't wait to shoot it again.

Because of all the little features built into it that make it feed and shoot so well. It also makes clean holes in the paper.

I also have the Mihec 200 SWC 4-banger and it is my "other" favorite.

See many laud the 452460...I've tried two different molds...both had sticky bullets and would hand up on the front driving band. One has to let the bullet cool for 10~20 seconds so you don't get a pull off. Lee used to make a similiar mold..I have a sengle cavity version...no hang ups at all. Also have their 200 SWC-TL, again it casts better and is very accurate. Perhaps I should lap out my 452460? Have others dealt with this "issue"?

yeah it sounds like a burr there or a bad draft angle.
i'd give it a lapping.
turn the mold 90* to the bench when emptying the cavity's too.

I really like my H&G 130 and the NOE copy of same. They both shoot better than I can hold. enjoy Mike PS. Not getting rid of my 452460 either.

i have a saeco 4 hole in a 452460 and a lyman that cast non hollow points like in the picture above. both are great molds and have been very happy with them. like btroj says, try a brass mold and you wont ask why. they drop as soon as you open the mold and for me and my lead- bulletts come out shiney untill the mold gets too hot

They Lyman 452460 and Hensley and Gibbs 68 are the gold standard for accuracy in a 1911 pistol. Both are also excellent field and defense bullets when pushed at service velocity (850 - 875 fps) and the accuracy will hold up with the increase in speed.

1911 shooters will argue endlessly over which is better and there really is no way to settle it. It all boils down to person choice and experience.

I tend to favor the Lyman 452460 because it is a tad heavier and has a little longer bearing surface, but that is mostly theory as both shoot very well for me.

Everybody and his dog, makes a H&G 68 clone. I have not tried them all, but if they are true to the original design, they will all work just fine.

H&G 68 and MP 200 RNHP are my favorites. 452460 is close on their heels.

My .45 likes the Lee 200 gr RNFP best of the 4 different molds I have.
