I will need or want a .226 die to lube heat treated and gas checked (.225) boolits in my 450. I didn't see this size available from Lyman where I looked, does any make or "bore-out" these dies?

Buckshot, one of our moderators, makes dies that commercial mfgrs don't. He does really good work at really good prices.

I'm one of Buckshot's very satisfied custom sizing die and M-die expander plug customers.

I've got a 228 if that would work.

Hold that die for me until tomorrow.....Let's see what anyone thinks.....Well guys, is +.003" too much for lubing a hard gas-checked boolit sized at .225"????

Not as long as you can chamber the round without tightness. The neck does need room to expand.

What I am worried about if lube passing around the .225 sized, gas checked and heat treated bullet if I use a .228 when lubing.

What Jim said. I had Buckshot do me up a set of sizing dies for some .462 stuff I've got and the dies AND his advice are priceless. Works out REALLY well the way he set me up.

You could lube them in the .228 and THEN size them in the .225

I lube and gas check in a Lyman .228 and then size with a Lee .225 ..My Lyman Ideal mold 225415 drops from the mold at .226 using linotype metal..........Terry

If you have a blow by problem pan lube then size in your die. JerryW

remy, on my 30 caliber boolits when heat treated I found that I size them to bore diameter and install gas check, then heat treat them , then run them thru luber/sizer with .001 over sizer die to lube, done this way does not affect the heat treatment.I will also say get it from Buckshot, he does superb work

I must have missed something ???
You have a .225 and want to size to .226 and you think a .228 is too much???
where did I go wrong . I know its me but I am missing something

I will try to break this down....I want to cast, then size (.225") and install my gas check....no lube yet....now heat treat.....now I want to lube....a +.001" die, or for my application should be a .226" die to apply the lube and leave my hardened boolit surface alone. I am having trouble finding the .226" lube die, but have found a .228"....just wondering if the additional .002" will be enough of a gap to let the lube around and make a mess. I am going to try the .228" I have coming and try to lube w/o heat or as little heat as possible. Just wanted to know if anyone had tried using a larger than .001" die when applying lube to heat treated-gas checked boolits.

I think you will have a mess using a .228" sizer die to lube with. Contact Buckshot about a custom sized sizer die. FYI, he only makes sizes that are not commercially available.

I am looking for dimensioned drawings on the dies and punch blanks. i can make my own if I get dimensions. Just got an old lyman lube/sizer with no dies so I need a set to start with.
