It's finally time for me to start playing with casting for my 30-30 and 30.06. I have a Lee 150 and 180 mold, as well as a 311413. I'll probably jump on the 311365 GB going on right now with gas checks and a hollow point in 1 cav. I know the 413 likes lower velocities but I would like to be able to push the 365 or Lee molds.

My question is, what should I be looking at mixing up for an alloy to work in these calibers and decent velocity? I have plenty of smelted COWW that I picked SOWW out of. I also have some 30 Sn/70 Pb body solder and a bit of pure stuff. I've used straight COWW with good success in my 9mm pistols and carbine, but this is a whole new ball of wax. Any recommendations on something that would stand up to these rifles using what I have? Thanks.

By SOWW I'm guessing you mean stick on wheel weights, if so mix them 50/50 with COWW and water drop. You will end up with a tough alloy that will expand at the "pushing it velocities" you want to shoot, which will be easiest to attain in the 2-2100 fps for 30-30 and 19-2000 fps in the 06. I've taken deer with 30-30 and 170 gr at 2100 and 06 with 200 gr at 1650, both killed them just fine.

I shoot gas checked isotope lead + 1% tin. That lands about 95/2/3 lead/tin/antimony. I have pushed it as fast as 2400 fps without leading from my M1 Garands and from my 300 Win Mag. I shoot a Lee 200 grain boolit.
