The expander plug in the Lee 40-65 three die set is 0.404
FL sized new Starline 40-64 brass using the Lee FL sizing die has an ID of 0.393
The non tapered expander plug is 0.071 larger than the ID of the brass and will crush every case unless ... one opens the mouth of the case up (bell's it) with the large Universal Expander plug so the die expander plug can fit into the case
Bottom Line:
* Die expander plug is larger than ID of 40-65 brass
* The end of the plug needs to be tapered at the factory, which they aren't
Talked with Peter at Lee today about the issue ... "I will take a look at it"
I had 100 cases - now I have 96 before I belled the case mouths then used the die expander plug
