Forgive me if this is a simple question but I slugged my 6.5x55 Howa tonight.
Its the first time I've slugged a rifle.
The measurement I got was 0.268 now what size sizing die should I buy?
Is it right that I get the exact same size?

thanks again

Swedes run large. I'd try at least a .269" to start with.

A lot of molds won't throw a .269 bullet. You might find someone on this forum that could send you a few .269 - .270 cast bullets and load a few and see how they perform.

You have got one fine rifle there, especially in 6.5x55. Best buy for the money in my opinion.

Got one for my great nephew for his first deer rifle.

For what it's worth, the first few times I slugged rifles the answer was smaller than the actuality, due to poor technique. This might not have happened if I'd done more reading first, however. Nevertheless the possibility exists that the bore is slightly bigger than measured - but it can't be smaller.

Since it's a little big, bigger than we'd like anyway, I'd try shooting some as cast, ie- unsized in Lee's Frog Snot or hand lube a few. If your moulds shoot ok I'd lap out a Lee push thru sizer and try that. You can always lap out a Lyman/RCBS/Saeco type sizer die or have Stillwell or a local machine shop do it for you.

Thanks very much for the replies.
When I slugged the barrel I had a piece of dowel inside the barrel and tapped the slug up agains it with another piece of dowel so as to make sure it expanded to fill the bore
completly.
So hopefully the measurement should be right.
I see on Lee Precusions site that they offer a custom service "lube and size kits" that looks like the way to go.
Sorry if I'm laboring the point but let me get this straight generally a size above is best when shooting hard cast bullets?
So 0.268 bore needs 0.269(0.270) bullet

You got it Hutzpah. Add .001 or.002 to your groove dia., and your barrel will size it down the rest of the way upon firing.
