I just cast my first batch of boolits with my new Ranch Dog .460 300 gn TLGC of ACWW plus 2% tin. Anyone got a load that will do about 1,800 fps from my Guide Gun using 2400 and a tuft of dacron?

RD lists loads that go much faster than that, but neither my shoulder or the southern whitetails need that much horsepower inside of 100 yards. All recommendations will be appreciated.

BTW, this mold is really nice. About six batches of 6 to get the mold hot, then less than 45 minutes to cast 8 lbs of nice ones. Probably about 175 of them. I scrubbed it with dish soap and dried it with the wife's hair dryer, then applied some of Rapine's graphite mold prep with a Q-tip. Once that dried I smoked the cavities with my grill lighter. Worked like a champ. GF

I just got the 350gr cant wait to try it , the quality of the mold is great! I was using the lee 340gr with 26-27gr of 2400 and a piece of dacron mild recoil and accurate!

Here are some actual Chronograghed loads I shot in my circa 1972 Marlin 1895 45-70 with a 22" non Micro Groove barrel .

All were shot with the Ranch Dog 460-300GC , all were sized in a .461" sizing die all were lubed with Thompson's Blue Angel and all were cast from plain old wheelweights . All are also the averages of 3 shots .

Some of these were clocked several times , but this was pretty accyrate overall for velocities in my 22" barreled rifle . I would expect you'd loose 100 to 150 FPS in your 1895G with the 18 1/2" barrel .

Bear in mind I have one of the 4 original test molds and have been shooting this bullet since mid february of this year .

XMP5744 34 grains , not run this one over the Chrony , after looking at the Accurate Arms loading data I would say this 5744 load from my rifle "should" be in the 1400-1600 range .

I would also think that the Ranch Dog 460-300GC with 37-41 grains of XMP5744 should fall in the 1700-1900 range in my 22" barreled rifle .

The Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook, Third Edition shows a max of 30.5 grains of 2400 with dacron pushing the 293 grain 457191 at 1,47 out of a 24" barrel in either an 1886 or and 1895 Marlin. I think I will try 29.0 grains with a tuft of dacron and the RD 300 grainer and see how it works out. GF
