I loaded almost 1k rounds last week. I ran out of ammo boxes. I was buying the clear 50 round boxes from Cabelas. That gets expensive. What do y'all use? Is there a seller for empty factory boxes? I checked at the range and the Range master says they are already spoken for. I need ideas. I'm anal I like have them in fifty round boxes.

Look at Midway. They used to have the styrofoam inserts and white cardboard boxes.

don't know if they still carry them but midway use to have fold flat boxes by the score with a styro insert.
Me, I just dump em all in a 1 qt bucket or jar or whatever is handy.

I'm not proud. I pick plenty of them out of the trash at the range.

Go to Dillons website. They sell the plastic boxes in lots of 50 for a darn good price. Midway, might be nice prices but they kill you on shipping. I go to Dillon for quantity and good prices

I store bulk ammo in .50 cal cans and carry it to the range in draw string bags made from old jeans legs. Limited run stuff goes in MTM boxes.

I just store bulk ammo in large plastic boxes with a lid. When I get ready to go to the range I put some in ammo boxes to take to the range.

Why have ammo boxes for 2000 rounds of 38 special if I won't ver take that much to the range at one time?

Load in bulk, store in bulk. I can store 2000 38 special for 2.99. Bet you can't get that many ammo boxes that cheap.

I also used to put up all my pistol ammo in 50 round boxes but it got overwelming with to many guns /calibers / load options and brass . i now use some kind of plastic cantainer that i can get alot of the same size in, to store in bulk and put it in 50 round boxes for revolvers because i can pick up 3 rounds at a time and load them into my DA revolvers at one time or in small bulk containers as sold by midway that will hold 75 to 100+ rounds of semi auto ammo when im going shooting.

Bulk handgun ammo stored loose in .30 and .50 cal. ammo cans and dip out what I need when I go to the range. (Do the same thing with loaded clips for the Garand, too.). CF rifle stuff goes into a 40-year accumulation of 50-round plastic ammo boxes...haven't counted lately but I know I've got something like 50 or 60 on hand.

Dollar General has plastic boxes with locking handles. I use them for everything from cases to loaded ammo. They stack good and come in several sizes.

Yeah, but don't forget to get some tape to hold them shut!:-x

Maybe I got a bad batch, but the latch/lip/catch or whatever it's called wouldn't hold for sour beans. If they are indeed guaranteed, maybe I should give them a shout to see if they'll replace those 9mm boxes.

I'm real satisfied with the Frankfort arsenal boxes from midway. The ONLY problem with them is; don't drop them when full on concrete! They're a hard plastic, they'll break, most of the time bad enough they can't be used.

My bulk pistol ammo gets loaded placed in a 50 round tray so that i know when i have 50 then dumped into quart ziplock bags labeled and stored , sometimes i put 100 in a bag

why we are hung up on 50 or 100 i don't know it would make a lot more sense to load 60 , 70, 80 , 100, 120 , 140, 150 depending on what you load for so that you have 10 mags or reloads worth in a bag

i don't find reaching into a bag any slower than plucking rounds from a tray

Last time I bought any boxes I got them from this place http://www.topbrass-inc.com/reloading-supplies/products.php?category_id=56

Of course the last time I bought them they were a bit cheaper.

I load 100 to the bag. When I put a fresh tube of primers on the press I dump the loaded ones into a labeled bag. I can't see wasting time boxing ammo to later unbox it to load it into the gun. You can buy a box of 50 qt. bags for a couple bucks at Wally world.

Midway's house brand boxes by the case on sale, also have bought MTM boxes by the case from Wideners for great prices. Also have the Midway cardboard and styro boxes for traveling to matches.

Surplus ammo cans and ziploc bags here. I tired the MTM route. I know I have enough of them for over 1k each of 9mm and 45acp. They take up to much room in my range bag as well. It seems I keep shooting a higher quantity every time I go to the range :)

Another Zip Loc/ammo can loader here. Zip Loc bags are cheap, readily available and allow you to cram an amazing amount of ammo into an ammo can because you're not restricted to the square shape of a box. If my storage is going to be long term I usually stick a small packet of silica gel inside the bag.

I can't keep a cardboard box together for more than a trip or 2 to the range; so a lot of mine ends up in MTM colored boxes. My bulk handgun ammo in baggies and Mosin/SVT blasting ammo on chargers are the only ones that get their own ammo can. I would rather take up some extra room to help organize the wide range of cartridges I currently reload. Plastic also seems easier to relabel with whatever info I want to put on that particular box.

I go to the police range at the local gun club. They usually don't reload or pick up their brass, if the brass is gone, the garbage can is usually full of empty cardboard boxes. 40S&W ammo from CCI, either Blazer (with the aluminum case) or their ammo with a reloadable case has a large enough box to hold 45acp perfectly. I've picked up over 200 empty boxes, and they are usually like new.

I know this sounds weird, but I have a bunch of these cool green steel boxes with
a hinged lid with a real nice latch and a waterproof gasket. VERY sturdy and
work great for ammo. They come in two or three different sizes. You can get
them at most gun shows, about $8-9 for the bigger ones and $5-7 for the
smaller ones.

I think they call them "ammo boxes". :bigsmyl2:

Mtgun44 has it right, just open lid pour in ammo. Take a piece of masking tape and label the top on what's in it.

I bet you can put about 1,000 rnds in it.

Oh wait, I have one that's half full and has 1,500 9mm loaded in it. :)

maybe a few more than 1,000....

try Gunbroker, I bought several of the white boxes with plastic holders several yrs ago. I think IIRC they cost me $22 for 50 of them.

I use coffee cans for bulk storage, and I usually pick up cartons at the range.
