View Full Version : Rusty enough?

I picked up a couple of old steel loaf pans at a yard sale. I burned off the teflon coating, roughed up each loaf with sandpaper and set it outside to let nature take it's course.

Is it rusty enough to use as an ingot mold now or does it need more time?

The only way to know fer sure is to fill 'em with lead. Looks ok to me though.

just to be sure only fill one ingot before trying to dump it out

That's a lot rustier than mine and I have no release issues. Is that a loaf or a bar pan? The sides appear to be straight up and down(bar) instead of angled(loaf). I'd they're straight you could have issues getting them to release.

It's a loaf pan, the sides are angled.

You can lean it against something, and just fill the lower corner of each pan for a smaller ingot that dumps easier, too.

Nah, you are just getting started. After about three years of use and sitting out in between use they will be red all over. Then you are going strong.

Helps release the ingot from the mold.
