I seriously thought about the 38-45, and was almost ready to get one.

the only cost prohibitions at the time (still are) a barrel and some dies.

I thought it would be a much better seller than the 357sig, or the 400 corbon

Bruce Drake, those Rock Islands should be called Rock Solids. Without a doubt the best bang for the buck in a 1911.

I disagree...whilst the RIA guns are a value...they are certainly not rock solid. First off the metalurgy is not there. Soft metals in the case of most things produced in the Phillipines just dont cut it. The steel from there just sucks. No offense but it is what it is. And I must comment also on the quality control as I was gonna actually buy a RIA 1911-A1 stainless gun for a wonderfull price at the local gunshow. The guy handed me a rather lovely 1911 but the first thing I always do is grip the thing and rotate my hand and look at the mag well...I have no idea why I do this but I do...I do other things with rifles and shotguns...but feel no need to elaborate here...anyway...when I peered into the magwell it had the standard flatened 'D' look except it was slanted--like ran over with a bulldozier kinda slanted...I was like what the hell dude...did the UPS truck driver run this over? This thing looks like hell dude...He quickly said this is a 600 dollar gun but for you it will look a lot better for 400 bucks...I quickly said"no sir it will surely not, you need to find someone that needs a 45 more than I do for that price and a gun that looks like this" I still have no idea as to why some dealers are so sorry as to peddle **** like that. Anyway I certainly dont hate the RIA guns, but I certainly disagree with the statement of it being a rock solid gun. It is what it is, it is at best an entry level 45acp designed for the folks on a budget. And if nothing else I hope for the sake of anyone getting a RIA 1911 it is a stepping stone towards buying a better 1911 later on down the road.

What do you think of STI or Springfields? Just curious as they both use frames made by ARMSCORP (parent company of RIA) for their .45 pistols as well.

My RIA is very well finished and has less milling marks on the inside of the frame than the 1943 Colt I used in the Marines in the 80's.

Metallurgy is a science beyond most average shooters so I'm not going into that. 45ACP is a low-pressure round compared to 9mm or other cartridges so we'll see what the frame looks like in another 25,000 rounds.

Actually Bruce, Springfield gets their frames from IMBEL in Brazil.

I stand corrected. But its still the idea that a Brand-name may not be the actual producer of the firearm.

My RIA is over 5 years old, has a verified and documented 3,700 rounds through it(meaning I keep a record on all of my guns of their round count), and still solid. I stand by my previous statement.

Am I the only one that would like to see better picture(s) of Dale2242's pistola?

Wow, I hadn't even noticed until now that the current run was for 1911s.... Its ironic, as I almost bought what would have been my first today.
