I need some info, I've come across a Dan Wesson 44 Magnum, that is several years old ( i can get the serial number tomorrow). This gun has never been fired, It's still in factory box. I think it was built in Monson, Mass. It' blued with a 8" barrel. This one did not come with an extra barrel or wrench. Is $600.00 to much for it? Thanks for any help.

I think that you will find that depending on who owned the company at the time, it may be worth more. Maybe just look around on Gun Broker. I had one of the original .22's and am sorry I traded it in for something that I needed more at that time.

Those are all several years old -- as far as I know, the original Dan Wesson company made those until about 1985 or so, folded, then was reopened and made them for a few more years before they were bought out by CZ -- and haven't made a revolver since (they make what looks like a nice 1911, though).

Needless to say, my Model 15 is not for sale...

That would be a fair price hereabouts, the last one I saw for sale went for 585 and was pretty beat up looking.

Thanks for the info, looks like I just might have to spend that money.

FWIW, five or six years ago, I listed a Monson (pre-Norwich) DW744 (stainless) with 6" and 10" vent-rib barrels (including the original owner's manual, barrel wrench, cylinder gap gauge, and a full set of front sight inserts) on GunBroker and it went for just over $800...and, while it was in Good+ condition, it was nowhere near 'NIB'.

I passed on a blued 44 a year ago with 6" and 4" bbls and a wrench. Both bbls showed some scratches and bluing wear, price was $595.

The gun will soon become your favorive, and the price is very fair for NIB or close to it

I picked up a stainless Monson made .44 in April for $650 out the door. It came with a 6" and an 8" barrel, both compensated, and a gun rug. It was used but in very good condition. I had been seeing prices all over the map for the DWs and when I found this one, I jumped on it. Most with 2 barrels were going in the neighborhood of $800 around here at that time. Only mod I have made to it was to swap out the Pachy grips for Hogue.

Check it over very carefully, Dan Wesson QC was all over the map, even on the much touted Monson guns. I looked at a blued .357 last year a co-worker had just bought for $200. It looked brand new, but he said he had to pound out any factory .357 rounds one at a time from the cylinder. I looked at it, and it had the roughest chambers I have ever seen. it was a Monson gun. If it is a good example, and built right, the one you are looking at is well worth the asking price.

i paid between 125 and 175 for just the 4-6-8 bbls/shrouds for my stainless 44 mag.
the dan wessons are finally starting to climb up in price.

Thanks guys. I went ahead and got the gun. 595 out the door. It comes with styrofoam box with paper wrap around , instruction manual ,wrench in envelop and second grip in factory box that has the finger grooves. It also has the box from the 8" ported barrel. I can't wait to shot this one.

You were correct TXBRILL, I now have a new favorite pistol. This gun shoots very well. I checked it over, and it looked great . the cylinder gap was on the money using the gap gage that came with it. Thanks for all the input.

You can adjust the gap on a Dan Wesson.

Yes, the barrel is held in place by the nut on the end of the shroud, if I have read correctly. It seams like it will be realitvely easy to change the barrel and shroud. I'll more than likely be looking for some more barrels and shrouds before very long.

don't do it.
then you'll want the 357,45,41,445,375,357 max,414,25/32-20,22 lr,etc.. extra bbl's,boxes.
it's as addictive as buying molds and stuff. it seems to never end.
btw.
i need the 45 colt and 41 mag, if anybody knows about one....

I started with one.... now I have over 20 DWs. It's called DWAS- Dan Wesson Aquisition Syndrome. If you need any help- head over to the Dan Wesson Forum. I have the same user name over there.
