Went shooting with my Pietta Model 1851 Confederate Navy .44 yesterday and had a BLAST! This thing is darn accurate.

I use CCI No. 10 percussion caps, 25 gr FFFg Goex, a dry felt wad, a lubed felt wad, and a .457 pure lead RB. Low recoil.

One hole groups at 15 yards. Using a 6 o'clock hold on a 6" Shoot-N-C target puts the ball clipping the top of the orange dot in the middle of the bullseye.

Shooting beyond 15 yards, it shoots so high that it's hard to judge the sight picture. Someday I'll get around to grinding down the hammer and deepening the V.

I remove the cylinder from the gun to load it with a Powder Inc. C&B Cylinder Loader. The flat base is very steady, it's easier on my hands, and I can really compress the charge.

I use a dry felt wad over the charge because my homemade lubed wads are kinda sloppy.

The gun is available at Cabela's for $149 now.

My 58 rem shot high when I got it. I soldered a small piece of brass to the top of the front sight and filed it down to bring POI and POA together.
