Buddy of mine asked if I could use some once fired 338 Norma brass. In my innocence I though it was based on the "normal" belted mag case. Something I could form into fodder for the two 6.5 Rem. Mag rifles my wife and I have. So, being a reloader, which also means beng a scavenger, I said, "Sure".

He said he'd bring me "some".

He did that indeed, I am now the owner of 1,000 pc or so of the biggest honking rimless case I have ever seen!

It is not a belted mag, it cannot be fomed into 6.5 RM or anything else I might ever own.

It's just too darn pretty to scrap(at this point).

Anybody wanna build a 338 NM? I can set you right up with brass for it. :)

Alan; never heard of a 338 Norma Mag, 358 and 308 Norma which are belted H&H design, maybe Norma brass for 338 Lapua, 338 Rem Ultra mag?

I am sure you will be able to get rid of it but you may have to look for a long range hunting forum , it is a fairly new cartridge with a huge capacity. The parent case is the .416 Rigby and I believe it was primarily designed to compete in government trials to find a new sniper round.

I too had to look it up, from the title i assumed Norma .338 Lapua mag brass! Near as i can tell it gives the same performance as the Lapua in a shorter case while not having the bullet intrude on powder space. 300 gr at 2750, not bad!

Midway says $188 x 100 for new brass, you might have scored big time with 1000 pcs landing in your lap!

I knew nothing about this cartridge either until I recently picked up an old Herters rifle in .308 Norma mag.I was trying to pick up some brass for it when I ran into the newer 300 and 338 Norma mag.

My curiousity got the better of me, I HAD to know how much was in that box. I weighed 100 rds, then weighed the contents of the box. I have a bit over 1500 pcs of the stuff. Kind of a whole big bunch of nothing at this point.

I build a lot of rifles in that caliber for the long range "sport rifle" guys. They love it! You have certainly scored big time there, that brass is some kind of expensive. For a magazine fed rifle it is a much better choice than the 338 Lapua mag, kind of like the 6.5 Creedmoor compared to the 260 Rem.

Darn, I picked up a .338 Lapua mag a little while ago... really nice rifle (Sako TRG42, with factory bipod/brake & other nice accessories, and I put my nightforce NXS 5.5-22x56 on it). I love the .338 mags (had most of them, this is my 2nd 338 Lapua, but also owned .338 win mag, 338 Rem Ultra Mag, 338-378 Wby).

So needless to say, I know how valuable that brass was!! Hope u got a good price for it. Even at a "big discount" versus new, that brass is so expensive that u should have walked away with some nice cash.

2 things to say about that

1. I hope u did something really nice for your buddy, or kicked him back some money!! :) If someone gives me something that they think is worthless, and I end up selling it, I usually give them some money back. Or, if they think its worthless, but I know better at the time, I'll tell them that if I sell it i'll give them some money.

Course, sometimes people give me things they have lying around, because I've helped them out in the past (I am a mechanic, not for work, but I've done most everything, so I end up working on cars/trucks/bikes for friends, and I just have them pay for parts..... I don't want any money for time. If they aren't a good enough friend that I'll fix it for free labor wise, then I'm just not working on it.... I've got other stuff to do....). So maybe later they are given something, it didn't cost them anything (someone just gave it to them, or they happened upon it), and they pass it to me just as a way to say "thanks", because they know its something I'll use/enjoy and not just go sell...

2. With a friend like that giving out that much super nice brass, I wonder what ELSE he has that he wants to get rid of????? :)
