View Full Version : Testing the 311465

Yesterday was my 1st opportunity to test my 311465 bullets . I have the 311466 and the 311467 molds but just never had a good opportunity to purchase a nice 465'. I had wanted to finish my collection out with the purchase of a 465' mold, that way I'd have all three Lyman Loverines in .30 cal. in my collection.

Doug ( 94Doug ) knew that I was a big fan of Loverine bullets so he offered me the mold at a reasonable price and I bought it. Once the mold arrived I cleaned and degreased the mold and cast a few. I sized the bullets that I cast to .310" and installed my .014 " Amerimax AL gas checks. Bullets were lubed with " Ben's Red."

I loaded in " 5 round lots " for my Rem. Model 700, cal. 30-06 , using Russian Unique ( Salute ). My loads were as follows :

9.5 grs. Russian Unique
10.0 grs. Russian Unique
10.5 grs. Russian Unique
11.0 grs. Russian Unique
12.5 grs. Russian Unique
14.5 grs. Russian Unique

When I reached the 14.5 gr. load, this bullet was shooting " in the same hole " at 50 yards. It seemed the faster I shot the bullet the tighter the group got. ( obviously , one would reach a point in this series where accuracy would head South , but I did not reach that point with my limited testing yesterday )

So,.........I got outside this morning and cast more.
WOW ! ! ! Casting and shooting is FUN !

By the way, this one is a real " LEAD SAVER" also.

I think this load ( 14.5 grs. of Russian Unique with the 126 gr. Loverine 311465) would be a great training load for someone who isn't accustomed to shooting center-fire rifle calibers.

Per chance (I know somewhere between "not a chance" and "NO") should you tire of that mould I would like to buy it and try at HV in my 14" twist Palma rifle.

OK ....Larry, I'll keep you in mind.

I'm shooting a 1/10 twist, Rem. Model 700, in cal. 30-06. The rifle is glass bedded , free floated and has a nice crisp 1 lb. trigger in it. I'm wondering what the velocity ceiling on this one really is ?

I'll be shooting ACWW's with about 2% tin added.

Anyone want to make a velocity guess of my 14.5 gr. Unique with 126 gr. bullet in my 06' right now ? ?

In the older Lyman manuals when they actually shot their test loads for accuracy the 311465 was listed as the best bullet for HV loads in .30 cal.

I'll be shooting ACWW's with about 2% tin added.

That should get close to the #2 alloy I believe Lyman used.

I have a HP version(non factory) that i had wanted to shoot in my 308 HV Saiga.it didn't feed though. I wanted to shoot rockchucks with it.I have shot i ta bit in other 30 calibers but never had it shot as well as the 311316 for some reason.???At 50 yards it seemed to group well but at 100 it was a 2.5" grouper.

I can send it your way if you want to cast some up and give it a run.

Isn't that the same bullet that is in a GB at this time?

Nicely done ben, I knew it wouldn't take you long to dial in these little jems. After I got my mold (311465) I sold all my other 30cal molds & have been using these pills ever since.

Enjoy, these bullets are a real treat to own/use/shoot.

I would like to give this boolit a whirl in 32-20. It's a bit heavy - but might be worth a try.

I have the lyman mold and will be getting round to loading for Savage 24 soon. I have TB and 4198. I figure the 4198 will get me close to 1800fps with about 18 grains. Anybody have any real data. Also did anybody shoot the bullet without GC. Thanks JIM

I'm not in a position to do this right now (moving) so give me a few months and jog my memory please, sounds like a good project to work on together(?).
