Hello all,

Been awhile since I posted on here but on labor day weekend my father and I filled our elk tags for 2012.I killed my elk on saturday and I took dad back on sunday to fill his. All in all, it was a great weekend.

My elk was shot at 448 yards, one shot. I shot his under washington states disabled hunter program at 413 yards in the same canyon! I shoot a Tikka T3 hunter in 300 winchester. My load is 72 grains of re-22 with a 190 grain berger VLD hunting bullet seated as far as my magazine will allow. Two years ago I sent my scope to leupould to have the custom dial installed for my load.Man it is spot on! Its nice to be able to focus on the wind and not have to worry with holdover.I spend alot of time shooting this rifle over three hundred yards. My elk was a late calf, a bit hard to tell that it had spots in the shadow at that distance, but man does it sure taste good!

Didn't know they had a rifle hunt this early in Washington. Lucky devil with that calf. Whenever I have a cow tag and have to drag something out by myself, all I see is big ones.

Well at least you wiped the milk off his lips before you took the picture. I'll bet it is good eating not to mention easy packing to the truck!

Nice shooting!

Your post makes it sounds like Washingon allows you do fill someone else tag, is that true?

Hopefully it was still cool enough to get them out without spoiling. Some of my friends went out last weekend archery elk hunting didnt connect but they were both happy because it was/is still pretty warm here in Wyoming.

It was perfect. We had them skinned out and hanging pretty quick. Really early in the morning. We cut the cow up today after we hung it for about ten days.Good meat!

For a disabled hunter another hunter can fill the tag for them. Its a good program.
