Was out minding my business looking for some holsters at the local gun shop and a Handi-Rifle just jumped into my hands. Seeing it was 99% and the wife was only giving me one of those we need this or that for the house talks, my wallet jumped out on the counter and paid for it. $125 and $10 back ground check. This had the scope mount and regular sights on it. Now to see how it shoots cast. Mark

The wife actually did. She was mumbling something about French doors where the sliding glass doors are.

I can't say about that one, but mine shoots anything that I feed it, cast or otherwise. My cast boolit is a Lee C309-160R, with a load of IMR 3031.

I wound up with a H&R 30/30 about 15 or so years ago. At first I tried factory loads, both 170 and 150 grain bullets hoping to set an accuracy standard for this rifle. Even with a scope, it did not like anything I fed it. Next came some handloads with various load combinations. It did not matter the bullet weight, type or charge of powder, overall loaded length, etc., etc., this rifle refused to group. In all I probably load experimented more with this rifle than any other up to that time. All load testing wound up with better groups (?) about softball size, poorer ones 3 times that. All firing was over sandbags on a solid bench over a 100 yard range. Nothing worked. Bah! Humbug!! About four years ago I got motivated to try another test in this rifle. Loaded up some 110 gr. FMJ bullets for the .30 Carbine. Suddenly, patterns became GROUPS! Yup, I'm slow. Had never considered rate of twist, but immediately bought some Sierra 125 gr, JHP bullets, loaded them hot over H-335, and got all the success I could have ever wanted. This rifle insists on light (meaning SHORT) bullets and a hot charge under them. Now that testing is showing success I can move to the next level and steam up some real boolits. What used to be a frustration is now really getting to be fun!

Try Lyman 311291. Its the best bullet for 30-30 or 30-06. Start at 25 gr of 30-31 and work up to 30 gr, I get 1in groups at 50 yds.

I have a nef 30-30 that I bought about 15 years ago, shot pretty good ,the best was 3/4'' at 100yds with jacketed, shot my first deer with it and it was the easiest trail to follow of any since.

These guns shoot better than they should.for an inexpensive firearm they can be very accurate and a pleasure to mess with.what i like is you van buy one really expensive rifle or several handi rifles in a variety from varmint calibers all the way to big bore 45-70,450 marlin.500 S&W
