I have been trying different load combinations in my .54 Kahnke pistol and wanted to share the load I have developed. The barrel is fast twist and designed for conicals and bullets with sabots. I tried some conicals, but recoil was a bit stout. Plus, heavy 400+ grain bullets really aren't necessary for killing white tails where I live. So, I decided to try sabots and got very good results. My longest shots are likely to be 100 yards or less, so I tried various bullets in .44 and .45 cal. I cast all the bullets out of pure lead since I want the bullets to flatten on impact. I was somewhat surprised that the most accurate bullet was the Lyman 429434 intended for the 44/40. The bullets were left unsized, dropped at .454+ and were used without a gas check. I used 75gr of Goex fffg with a Hornady sabot. I haven't run the load over a chrono yet, but I got 1.8" at 75 yards, so I believe this will do the job this upcoming season. I also tried several of the standard cast bullet designs, but this bullet performed just a little bit better than the rest.:)http://castboolits.gunloads.com/imagehosting/thum_907750481a4d1d2d4.jpg (http://castboolits.gunloads.com/vbimghost.php?do=displayimg&imgid=6560)http://castboolits.gunloads.com/imagehosting/thum_907750481a69d6434.jpg (http://castboolits.gunloads.com/vbimghost.php?do=displayimg&imgid=6561)

Great group, there. I'd say you are ready. What sabots are you using?

What is the barrel length. Just moved to Arkansas and muzzle loading pistols must be 9" if you use them for hunting. That leaves my 7 1/2" in ROA out! :groner:
