I got about 60lbs of truck wheelweights a while ago. These are from 35,000GVWR to 49,000GVWR trucks. The WW are huge compared to cars.

I melted them slowly this time so if there was any zinc, I could dish it out before ruining the entire melt. No problems with that. When I got it melted and cleaned, I tried casting a few bullets. Looks like it is not bad, but it will need a little tin to get it to fill out easily. I remelted them and dropped everything into ingots.

After it was all cooled off, I tested one of the ingots for hardness. It showed Bhn 17-18. I was surprised, so I tested two other ingots and got the same. That is a lot harder than any WW I have ever gotten before.

I am guessing it is higher in antimony. Any other ideas or experience with this kind of stuff?

Harry, put one in the oven at 450 for an hour and water drop. Measure hardness 3 days later. If significantly harder and larger in diameter, then antimony is for sure the hardener. ... felix
