I was looking for some info on blue dot in 30-06 as I have 8lbs of it. I figured on trying out 16gr with a dacron wad behind a 150gr SAECO or NEI for starters. Any thoughts/loads from the crew here ?

Not sure how fast you want to push the bullets .
But I have used 12 gr with 160 - 180 gr bullets
I got about 1400 fps

I looked in my Lyman manual , 151 gr cast
They list Herco at 13.5 gr , 1618 FPS - 17 gr , 1858 FPS
No BD data
2400 20 gr , 1723 fps - 30.5 gr , 2446 fps

But IMO your 16 gr should be about a start load

Based upon that, John, the rounds Will be shooting will be about 1700. ... felix

If you can't work up a good load after using up a couple of pounds I'd try something else.

Yep , thats my guess

One thing about Blue Dot , it isn't a powder you should try for max velositys with .
I have loaded a fair amount in both cast and jacketed rifle loads
Never had a problem with cast at the velositys we normaly try for .

But I found and saw the same thing posted on other sites about max and close to max loads
That the pressure curve of Blue Dot when you reach close to max turns steep

Meaning , when you get close to max .
You will see no pressure signs with a load , then you up it slightly and you get all kinds of pressure signs .

I just wanted to pass along , that Blue Dot is great for reduced loads , but touchy on the top end

If somewhere around 16gr gives good accuracy, I see no need to go up very far from there. 1600-1700fps is more than enough to poke holes in paper. For Full loads with Jacketed bullets, I generally like 4985/4350. The blue dot idea was just for casts and just for mild loads so that will work out about right.

That load is a definite Keeper. Fired a 3 shot group at 50 yards with all three touching, 5 shots opened it to about an inch. chrono said 1624 avg. 12 ES
